Is X Factor Copying American Idol? Randy Jackson Thinks So!

randy jackson talks x factor

Whataya have to say to that, Simon?

During a recent interview, Randy Jackson opened up about X Factor and flat out said that it's COPYING American Idol:

"Simon and Paula are dear friends of ours. They started this whole Idol tradition with us. I think that Idol's still the best TV show that's come on anywhere. We're the original, we kind of invented this whole game that everybody's now copying, and I say that they're copying it, right?"

"So, I mean, listen, I mean, Simon's done well with his show, probably not the expectations that he wanted, but you know, we wish him well and you know we've gone on with this and done well."

Ouchie! Between this and Randy's comments about The Voice from back in May, he's clearly having issues with ALL singing competition shows that aren't Idol!

Do U think that X Factor is copying Idol???

They sure do think highly of themselves, especially since they did not "invent this whole game". Lets not act like this was some original idea that's never been done before.

  2. 2

wasnt the UK version out before idol?!

  3. 3

And he didn't say it in a bad way but the way you post this it's as if he did. You are ridiculous. Really.

  4. 4

and if not im PRETTY sure Star Search and Apollo came first

  5. 5

HEY Simon X Factor SUCKS ! will never beat American Idol in the rating race and with WORTHLESS judges Nicole and Paula

COMMENTS ON AGAIN "Meet Toddlers & Tiaras New Star, Alana Honey Boo-Boo!" HOW can you justify continuing to publicize this perverted pedo directed piece of shit. I'll bet that most watchers are pedo males, naked, with their joints in their hand.

    Pop Idol was first.

Re: pie107 – LOL I was thinking the same thing. But, no Randy Jackson invented everything. In fact, I believe he invented American Idol right after Al Gore invented the internets.

Why does he look like he had a stroke? His whole face is sideways.

Well, Dawg doesn't know that American Idol was just copying Apollo or Star Search. Shhhh! Don't tell him. Let him keep thinking they were the first. LOL

As if Randy was involved in the showrunning at all. He was just a bigheaded one-liner judge that he continues to be. Simon Cowell made Idol what it is, and he very clearly felt that he needed to move on with a different (albeit similar) format. Randy should be thanking Simon, not being snarky.

Re: pie107 – Yes. UK's show Pop Idol is the original show. Comparing the original UK shows, there are four big differences between the Idol franchise and the X Factor francise. Idol's artists are single artists, X Factor has single artists and groups. Idol has an age limit, X Factor has no age limit. Idol has good performances, X Factor has bigger show performances. Idol releases the album of the winner within a short time after the final show, X Factor releases the album of the winner a year later with the beginning of the new season.

that's all "Hollywood" is now - copies! No originality anywhere

American Idol is THE BEST hands down! No need to get all bitchy Randy…

Re: pan86beat – How can it be "the best?" How many years has that show been on? (too many IMHO) And how many "Idol's" out there are still working? 2? 3, maybe?
It's mental popcorn. People watch it, get all caught up in voting and making sure who they like wins, then you never hear form that person ever again and the public forgets about them by the time the next voting show comes around.
Looking at you Taylor Something-or-other with your gray hair. Rubin who?

Wasn't Simon responsible for developing Pop Idol (the UK version of American Idol) and The X Factor? Which both came before their American counterparts? And neither Simon nor Randy "invented" a singing competition, they've been around forever!

    Re: pan86beat – You're so funny! lol

    X-Factor came first—in the UK…and Idol copied that–such a stupid story.

  22. 22

    nobody remembers Popstars.

  23. 23

Re: Sweetness24 – X factor can't even get real stars. It's like they took the DWTS cast offs. XTina…please. Miss Piggy and Hatchetface had a baby and that's what came out.

x-factor. americas got talent. the voice. yes. in america. they are all copying idol. and its too much. there do not need to be so many different singing competitions. thats why i couldnt watch x factor. it was just an idol wannabe with worst rules. letting kids enter is wrong, cuz they cant handle rejection. idol is the main show and these others might as well give it up. the voice or am. got talent or x factor will never produce a carrie underwood or kelly clarkson. artists with loyal followings and longevity in their careers. and the best am got talent has done was with jackie evancho, and she is an acquired taste.
