ABC Is Holding Off On Cutting General Hospital… For Now

| Filed under: TV NewsKatie CouricSad Sad

GHo Safe

The days of the soap opera could be over, unless more people are watching the online-only episodes than we think.

To further prove that point, ABC's General Hospital is on the edge of being canceled… just not yet.

Here's what the President of ABC had to say:

"We'll see. I’m a fan of General Hospital but we haven’t made a decision and we don’t really have a time frame on it."

In other words, "The days are numbered."

Everyone start preparing yourselves, just so you don't get caught off guard. The network need room for new programming, especially with that new Katie Couric show looming in the distance.

Will U be sad if it's cancelled??

Im still lost as to why they kept General Hospital but canned One Life To Live. I dont know anyone who still follows that one. And its stupid to go on ratings that dont include people who watch on line or on the soap channel. Let ABC can General Hospital. Its just more viewers for the remaining soaps on the better channels (ie NBC and CBS).

Are you fucking Kidding me?!!!! If they cancel GH I will been done with all things ABC. This is some bullshit. GH is an amazing show with a great cast, and devoted fans. For Abc to cancel such an iconic show is plain stupid, especially for that bitch Katie Couric. I love GH and ABC better not cancel it.

I used to watch General Hospital a lot, last time I saw it, I did not recognize most of the actors, like One Life to Life better.

  4. 4

I like Days O Our Lives best.

  5. 5

Although, I have to say, there was never a better story line than Luke and Laura except Jack and Jennifer were close.

ok first all my children was cancelled for the show "the chew" which has to be the dumbest show ever, i think we have enough cooking shows on the cooking channel, and food network.
secondly, how many damn talk shows do we need, most people watch tv to be ENTERTAINED, not to watch fake reality shows, or 50 different talk shows talking about the same crap.
why can't there be some diveristy on tv, cable is overpriced as it is now there will be another channel with nothing on.

Why in the hell did you use a picture from the 70s? Way to show how great the show is NOW! WTF is that?
I stopped watching when they started doing mob and nothing but the mob. I miss the hospital in General Hospital. The 80s had adventure at least when there wasn't hospital. But they turned to the mob and now its the Sonny and Jason show. No thanks. The only original thing on the show anymore was Michael's rape and they didn't even publicize it. A male rape on daytime and no one even knew. Oh well. I guess ABC really did hate their daytime viewers. Way to spit on a huge portion of your viewership.

Wow - another talk show - let's see The View, The Chew, The revolution and now The Katie Couric Show - BORING!!!!!!!!!! Same old crap on all the shows!!!

I think ABC doesn't understand the power of soap fans. Soap fans are the most loyal and if you piss them off they will come after you. While I get that ABC wants to make a quick buck on these cheap so called talk shows, they are not providing viewers with anything decent.

They better not cancel GH, my sister & I are huge fans!!! my mom is a fan too, we would not like ABC anymore if they canceled it!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. 11

I love gh its my favorite soap of all time.

  12. 12

    YESSSSS!!!!

  13. 13

    omg no!!!

  14. 14

Shame on those people for canceling all the soaps on ABC…don't watch anything there on daytime now except General Hospital and it isn't even the soap I loved.

  15. 15

    Big mistake if they do.

  16. 16

i will never watch abc again

  17. 17

I watched GH for over 25 years. Haven't seen it in about 2 years now. But, I have to say that my heart would hurt if they canceled it. :-(

I have watched GH since it began in 1963. The last thing ABC needs is another talk show. We already have them all day and all night. And Katie Couric, being a replacement for GH. That is laughable.

  19. 19

Wow Perez, you have the "comments on" from a post from Fit Perez. How gracious of you to do that. The funny thing about it is that no one noticed it. Just sitting here shaking my head and laughing to myself.

Outrageous! General Hospital is without a doubt the most well written soap on television. it did have a lull in the writing for a couple of years but is definitely back on it's game. Without soap operas like GH, there would be no primetime drama OR reality show….they all take off of the serious story lines and family crisis plot lines that only a soap can have all in one. Plus, it is one of the most demanding and intricate forms of training for an actor, just think about how many starts got their start on a soap (and a number of them were on General Hospital)

I was a huge AMC and OLTL fan from when I was a teenager. I sort of got into GH when I had my kids. I am LOST without my shows, they were my escape for the afternoon!!! I will NOT watch ABC other than the View, there are many more channels out there, and ABC has blown it BIG time!!!!!

  22. 22

I'll be SO SAD if it's canceled.

  23. 23

I will be so upset should the network decide to cancel GH. I have been watching for as long as I can remember. I enjoy sitting down at night and watching my taped episode after everyone has gone to bed. I don't think we need anymore talk shows, cooking shows or reality tv shows. We have way to many rediculous ones already.
