netflix launches in uk and ireland

Let's hope they do it right this time!

Back in October, we first heard about Netflix's plans to expand and offer services in Ireland and the U.K.

Now, the company has officially launched their service overseas! Here are some highlights from the press release:

"Netflix, Inc., the leading global internet subscription service for films and TV programmes, launches today in the United Kingdom and Ireland , offering instant and unlimited access to a broad range of entertainment for the low monthly price of 5.99 Pounds Sterling in the UK and euro 6.99 in Ireland."

"'We are starting 2012 in the best possible way: by giving consumers in the UK and Ireland an amazing entertainment experience,' said Reed Hastings, co-founder and chief executive officer of Netflix. 'Now, you can enjoy as many great films and TV programmes as you want, when you want, where you want, for one low monthly price with no contracts or commitments.'"

"At launch, Netflix is offering films and TV programmes from All3Media, the BBC, CBS, Channel 4's 4oD, Disney UK & Ireland, ITV, Lionsgate UK, MGM, Miramax, Momentum Pictures, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox and Viacom International Media Networks."

Do U think Netflix will be successful in the UK? How about in Ireland? Both? Neither???

Took a quick look at it. As far as I can see only old films. Nothing close to what iTunes offer in the Uk. I usually use iTunes and can find there all the latest films and TV shows.
Maybe Netflix will change in the future.

I don't see Netflix doing well here.

Delighted Netflix is finally in Ireland! The selection at the moment isn't the best, but obviously they are just starting out here, just like in the states, they'll need awhile to get over teething problems, but I think eventually, especially because of the great price, people will be switching from Sky Movies to Netflix, I know I am!

Re: sod91 – I definitely think that's a good point. Sky Movies is SOO expensive.
