The View Tackles Slavery Math Question Controversy

| Filed under: Barbara WaltersWhoopi Goldberg

Leave it to Whoopi Goldberg to be the voice of reason.

Yesterday, the ladies of The View took time during their Hot Topics panel to discuss the use of slavery in a math question for 3rd graders! The story out of Georgie BLEW up in the news this week as the school's acceptance of such racist practices has fueled a lot of anger from parents, students and people nationwide.

Take a look at the video above to see what the ladies had to say about this issue.

Side note - Joy Behar should totally go back to teaching English! LOL!

When I read this story earlier, it mentioned that there were NINE 3rd grade teachers in this school who all gave the same test
My question WHY would any school need NINE 3rd grade teachers?

As for Joy teaching English, would be better if she would learn to speak it

Re: MR Pete – Because she has a New York accent makes you think she cannot speak English? Don't cha think that is an ignorant thought? Joy Behar is very intelligent and enlightened….she has a good accepting heart as well….Perhaps you feel threatend by outspoken intelligent women, because there is no need to slam her or her English…Just sayin'

So when it's against Jews they're just over reacting, when it's against blacks it's racism?

How about teaching social studies in a social study class? Why combine the two…which is a load of crap. Further proof that WE STILL LIVE IN A RACIST COUNTRY.

Whoopi should know all about racism seeing as how she is pretty racist herself, but since she is black its ok with society and accepted. Where in the questions did it say the slaves were BLACK? I agree its poor wording but guess what? People have been enslaved in all colors. Another question was "how many busshels of cotton did so and so pick? Umm where does it say anything about being BLACK? It didn't! Guess what? Most people that pick cotton are hispanics, I didn't see any of them crying out to the media trying to get their mugs in the camera and acting out. The black community is always trying to find someway to play victim instead of empowering their people. Its a shame, its easier to try to play victim and find a way to create a lawsuit instead of doing something more productive to change the statistics. Racism is very much alive and well in GA in the black community.

by the way cracktown, with your name its obvious you are very familiar with racism. Hypocrite much? I agree with thebigboot, when its any other group of people its no big deal when its black people its huge and everyone looks for a cash payday out of it.

Re: Esin Emko – Please don't call all Georgians that. I am from Georgia and find this disgusting. I would NEVER condone such ignorance in a classroom and was actually very offended by what happened in one of our schools. There's racism in every state. Just don't group all of the people in one state together. THAT'S ignorance.

What year is it? This is just sad and hysterically funny at the same time. People…we can do a lot better than this.

I wonder if the questions was "If a rapist rapes 12 women and only 4 get VD how many women are clean." I mean for people who are trying to justify this would this be acceptable as well. Wrong is wrong.

Re: boxergal – I am a black male and trust me I never play the race card but this CLEARLY was directed toward black slaves. I'm not calling you stupid or anything but it is soooo blatantly obvious especially when they talk about picking cotton as well. I mean, come on, only a VERY uneducated person wouldn't make that connection. And you're right, there have been slaves of all colors but you know as well as I do that this was directed toward black slaves.
