George Clooney Calls The Fight For Gay Rights 'The Final Leg Of The Civil Rights Movement!'

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayInspirationGeorge ClooneyDustin Lance Black

george clooney talks gay rights

Even though he has no aspirations to run for office, George Clooney is still MORE than willing to get political for an issue he cares about!

Last night at the Critics' Choice Awards, George opened up about the crucial issue of gay rights.

Here's what he had to say about it:

"I think the world is changing and it's becoming less and less of an issue and I think it shouldn't be long now. I think younger people are looking at this like, 'Who cares?'

"I do believe it's generational, much like the civil rights movement. Young people started taking to the streets and things changed. This really is the final leg of the civil rights movement."

Not only that, but George is putting his money where his mouth is! As we mentioned back in December, he'll be headlining a Los Angeles benefit stage reading of 8, which is Dustin Lance Black's play that focuses on the federal case challenging Prop 8.

Thanks for the support, George! Much needed and MUCH appreciated!!!!

…Wonder when he will come out of that old HollyWoood closet …..?

  2. 2

Because he is GAY! Does that have anything to do with his stance? Endless beautiful women that he has ZERO attachment to, when will he stop the charade?

final leg of the civil rights movement? Uh, there is still a lot of work to do, like religion and sex?

I agree. Most young people don't care at all about seeing a gay person walking down the street, holding hands with their partner, or even them getting married. Because most young people (like born in early-80s or later) have just grown up seeing it, it's just something we are accustomed to. Seriously, when I see some old men freaking out about gay people, it's like BEYOND homophobia…it's straight up PARANOIA.

  5. 5

Yes…old men, born-again-boobs, people from the south/mid-west (not all - just the in-bred ones!), and all around dumbos who cannot realize that LOVE IS LOVE !

you go george. perez is understandably focused on this issue, but it's cool to see a guy like george who isn't gay to be involved in something that does not affect him directly. it hink thats cool

Re: Laura – exactly! Thank you for mentioning religion…we are still year behind on accepting different religions, because most of the politicians we put in power like to fear monger the hell out of the people. I understand the issues about gay rights but there are other things that we still haven't gotten right…so maybe we should work on the other stuff too…

    He always looks tired.

  9. 9

All that GAY partying he does….and having to escort them beards all in front of the media ……..

  10. 10

Re: kappuhcheenoh – Yes, because he dates some of the world's most beautiful women, that must make him… gay?

  11. 11

Re: Be-Atch – We get it. You've posted three times.. You think George Clooney's gay. Could you be more cynical?

  12. 12

This is what you prerverts are going to say when you start campaigning for bestiality and polygamy.

  13. 13

    Gotta love George Clooney!

  14. 14

    Damn!Right!

  15. 15

Georgie just wants to marry his longtime boyfriend, Rande Gerber, the "husband" of that BIG DYKE Cindy Crawford!!!

  16. 16

coming out of the closet, George, would do a world of good.

  17. 17

Ha gay rights it not the final frontier — what about the rights of heavy people not to be discriminated against. They no longer exist — it is ok in fact it is in are nations best interest to taunt and ridicule them into changing.
Posters displaying sad fat children, higher premiums discrimination in the work force. Perez you know how hard it is to struggle with weight — what have you say about this current trend.

  18. 18

Of course a rich white male presumably christian of some sort would say this.
Meanwhile non christians and women are still treated like second class citizens in the US.

  19. 19

Cant believe the hate on this article! This is a man fighting for something he believes in? Be happy that other people are standing up for what they believe in, we need celebrity's/personalities to speak about this issue so that it can be highlighted to polititions etc… Well done georgy!

  20. 20

And as for people saying that it isnt the final leg in civil rights because of religion… I think you will find that civil and religious rights are two totally seperate things… Hence the problem

The final leg…in our allied countries, anyway. Some of the rest of the world still lags far behind this.
