Sherlock Holmes Is Coming To CBS!

Oh yay! Robert Downey Jr. is coming to TV? A ticket to the ultimate smokeshow every week?! Who could ask for anything…

Wait. It won't star Robbie Sexpot Jr.? We're less excited now.

For the rest of you, CBS is looking to the future of its network and is planning a handful of new shows to bring in a new kind of audience. Their biggest project (as far as we know) is a modern take on the story of Sherlock Holmes, called Elementary. This new take on the classic detective will find Sherlock solving crimes and cases in New York City while still sporting a sexy English accent? .

We could get on board with this, should the right male lead be found to hold the magnifying glass and puff on the pipe. Oooh! You know what would be cool? If Watson was a girl! Then you could have that sexy Mulder & Scully thing going on that everyone just loves! (SEE: Bones, Castle, Fringe, Chuck, Moonlighting, etc.)

Just something to consider!

Not "everyone" loves a procedural drama where the leads are male and female and there's constant teasing of a relationship and then when that relationship finally happens, they either make an annoying couple or the entire show suffers for it (Bones, Chuck).

  2. 2

I am willing to bet that it will not be half as good as the BBC version.

  3. 3

Or you could just watch BBC's Sherlock…

Re: ashleyinvogue – exaaaaaactly…this show will only be second rate in comparison!

The BBC one is great, and Benedict Cumberbatch is wonderful in it (and in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). The BBC Watson is good, too, and they're funny together. Get them if you can, CBS!

  6. 6

Sounds like CBS is 'lifting' an idea from the BBC, which is nothing new for America TV ("All in the Family" was an Americanized version of a popular British TV show).

  7. 7

No! Not another BBC series ruined by american broadcasters! Like other commenters said, do yourself a favour, skip this show and go watch BBC's "Sherlock"

As an English major who studies 19th century English literature, this concept, your comments, and your ideas are all painful and horrific.

  9. 9

So, basically, they are Americanizing Steven Moffat's "Sherlock". And they will probably do it badly.

BBC's Sherlock is mastery. This will be procedural crap. Robert Downey Jr will NEVER be Sherlock. Benedict is Sherlock. He's about to be worldwide star for Star Trek and The Hobbit. This last season of Sherlock was fantastic.

  11. 11

Jeremy Brett is the one and only Sherlock Holmes. An article out recently agrees. :)

BBC's Sherlock has already done this, and incredibly well, why do they have to make an American version of everything? Can't see anyone doing the high-functioning Asperger's Sherlock Holmes better than the excellent Cumberbatch. "There's a room full of cumberbitches over here!" Love that series, it's brilliant.

Isn't that just the BBC's AMAZING Sherlock

  14. 14

BBC Sherlock is just perfection in every way from the script to the set to the actors etc. Why does America have to ruin everything, for example the 'Camelot' t.v show was CLEARLY a fail compared to BBC Merlin.
I think this will be a flop because let's face it, most people (like myself) will either not watch it or compare it to BBC Sherlock.
They just end up butchering it, instead of trying to find the right cast, have the right script etc all they care about is money.

This idea is just a ripoff of Sherlock. What is with americans needing their own version of everything off the BBC? Can't we just enjoy the original version?

Can we please leave this one to the Brits? BBC's Sherlock is perfect in every way.
This wouldn't come close to the epic-ness that is Sherlock.
