Too Soon? How I Met Your Mother's Josh Radnor Is Writing A Memoir

Josh Radnor memoir

What what in the butt?

How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor is apparently releasing a memoir called One Big Blissful Thing in April. Writing a book isn't easy and we definitely applaud him for branching out into the literary world, but isn't this a little premature?

We realize he's a successful Hollywood actor that has come from humble Ohio roots, but he's only 37 and he's only famous for one show!

What kind of wisdom does he really have to share with the world? According to Amazon's description of the book, stuff like this:

The story of one man’s unlikely spiritual awakening—this is Eat, Pray, Love for those who would rather be reading McSweeney’s . Josh Radnor grew up in Ohio. He was driven to school in a big yellow bus. He watched The Cosby Show and John Hughes movies. He also went on to become a successful actor in Hollywood. How then, in 2007, did he end up drinking an indigenous plant medicine called ayahuasca with a shaman in Brazil?

Uhh…what?

We won't jump to any conclusions about the quality of his book and we're crossing our fingers it's a hit with readers, but that description doesn't exactly make us want to read it — or give us any clue of what it's about.

What does being an actor have to do with drinking ayahuasca? Is this Eat, Prey, Love starring Josh Radnor, Bill Cosby and a big yellow bus? Does Julia Roberts at least have a cameo?

We're just joking around, of course, but feel like spiritual journeys take a lifetime and he's still got a lifetime ahead of him, so why write about it now? Who knows though, maybe this will be the best memoir Hollywood has ever churned out!

Are U interested in reading Josh Radnor's One Big Blissful Thing?

Radnor wasn't JUST in How I Met Your Mother. He's also done some theatre work, and directed, wrote, and starred in the movie "Happythankyoumoreplease."

From watching his interviews on the interwebs and TV I think he's already seen a lot of the showbiz perspectives, which in my opinion would make a great publication.

A memoir is not the same thing as an autobiography. Memoirs can focus just on one or more brief episodes in the life of the author, or they can be arranged around a theme, a la "The most embarrassing moments in my life" or "Times when I felt like I'd hit rock bottom." That's why people can write more than one memoir, because it's not a full picture of your whole life…I agree that it might be too early for him to try and chronicle his whole life and all his achievements when he still has so many years ahead of him, but memoirs can also be a really great way to document life–in snippets, rather than as a whole.

Kind of like your famous for trash talking celebs but you still feel the need to write your book?

  4. 4

Didn'e Perez write a book against bullying and about how important it is to be true to oneself? THAT was premature seeing as this website still has the audacity to make fun of and bully celebs. Think about that before you judge another persons work.

actually prey and pray have totally different meanings, and using the wrong meaning is subsequently the wrong title of the book. #homophones

He has done more than HIMYM. He is very intellectual and has done theater. In 2010 he wrote and directed a movie; Happythankyoumoreplease. I bet you won't be bitching if Zac Efron wrote a memoir.

I'm very excited for this! He seems like he would have a lot of interesting things to say…

Out of the entire cast of HIMYM - he'd be the last one I'd be interested in reading the memoir of…well, that's not entirely true. I feel the same about the woman who plays Robin. Now, a memoir by NPH? That I would read!

  9. 9

I wouldn't exactly call playing Ted something that's made him "famous" since he's consistently outshadowed by other members of the cast (everyone but Cobie, really).

He is the lamest character on HIMYM. They could get rid of him tomorrow and I would not care. The Robin chick too.

The quality of a memoir isn't dependent on how many movies you've been in. You fat idiot.

Uhm… Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Snooki, some stupid housewives of who knows where have "written" books - and you had nothing negative to say abuot that shit??????
