Ouch! American Idol Premieres To The Lowest Ratings To Date!

| Filed under: TV NewsAmerican Idol

This … is American Idol's worst nightmare.

While the return of the reality juggernaut won the night considerably, the 11th season debut of the FOX powerhouse suffered from the biggest year-over-year ratings drop for a premiere episode in the show’s decade-long history.

Down 27 percent from last year, Idol delivered 21.6 million viewers and a 7.2 in the adult demo last night. Considering the changes (and the competition) that has come up in the past year, this wasn't completely unexpected. Still, considering how mediocre X Factor faired in the ratings in comparison, this is undoubtly very disappointing for FOX.

Whomp, whomp!

And how will The Voice match up in February, we wonder! Has Idol finally met its match?

Perez, why aren't you showing my picture with my name? I think it's one of the best ones of me out there.

Now, about AI. I think everyone is so FREAKING OVERSATURATED with Jennifer Lopez they can't stomach seeing any more of her than they have to.

I had no idea it was on til I set the TV for Revenge. Same old shit. They still need a ball buster on there. Steve Tyler sux now. He was ok last year but still just a space case and out of touch.

  3. 3

Does anyone realize that the American Idol poster is wrong? Thursday is the 19th and Friday is the 20th.

  4. 4

Oversaturation. Do we really need three different singing competitions on tv? I mean, they're marketed as different but…they're not. And that's not even counting in America's Got Talent. People are just getting tired and bored.

Listen, American Idol's days are numbered. too many other shows like it on the air right now. And you can run a franchise into the ground. Which is the case with AI.

They should have gotten rid of JHO and ST. I think that all people see when looking at ST is his disgusting man boobs that was all over the internet and sick and tired of seeing and hearing about JHO and her ugly new boy toy. I won't watch and not one of my friends are either.

I agree there's too many of these shows on and FOX has two of them. X-Factor just ended and like the others, it was a huge commitment to watch all of the episodes. I will never watch The Voice again as long as Christina Aguilera is still on it; I've never watched AGT and I'm still exhausted from X-Factor so Idol is out of the question right now. Besides, if anything really interesting happens you can watch it on YouTube lol.

I find it ODD Prez never reports on how much traffic his web site is down?
Ok last year their was a curiosity factor with Simon leaving and JayLow and Stephen coming aboard. FYI the show had 21 million viewers and won the night by a couple hundred miles

american idol is done. it was done a few seasons ago. as much as i love the voice - the one reason it lasted and may last a couple more seasons, is because its different from AI & X factor with the blind auditions and battle rounds.

It feels like they just picked a winner. All Idol, all the time. That said, stop wanting instant gratification and allow things to pick up a natural head of steam. It probably still did better than most of the time slot.

Ιt is still waaaay ahead of the competition! Head and shoulders above anything else on tv! BTW JLO IS GORGEOUS!

  13. 13

People are sick of JLO chasing around boy toys and her Fiat commercial. I did not even know last night was the premier? LOL I was only interested in watching Revenge last night. I might watch once they get to the top 12. No time for the non sense they have on it now.

It's very broing during the weeks while they are auditioning and letting people make fools of themselves. Once it gets to the good talent it's already worn people out with the same old monotany different faces.

I watched it but i always watch tryouts

Too many of these shows now. The Reality /talent show, era is comming to an end. It had a great run, 10 years but it is ovah! The Voice is not going to do as well either. AGT will because ppl will watch for Howard.

Considering it still brought in almost 22 million viewers after ten years on the air I don't think they are hurting. That is double what the X-Factor and the Voice both had for viewers.

  18. 18

I agree with others. Way too many of these big, overblown singing competition shows. Too many competition shows in general. Does ANYONE do ANYTHING anymore for the love and art of it? And American Idol and XFactor and America's Got Talent all wind up looking for only a single sort of winner: generally some young chick who is generally "hot" that can be sold to teeny bopper girls in particular. ITS MONOTONOUS and has ruined American music and culture in the past decade. People are tapped out on the monotony of the shows, its "winners" and this idea that no one can be on tv unless they're a "hot" singer chick (or some singing side show oddity such as Susan Boyle). The world is a BIG, varied place. Quit suffocating the American public and culture with this music mogul CORPORATE industry crap which serves no one much money making interests.

I had no idea they already started!!!
