Liverpool Audience Demands Refund After Learning The Artist Is A Silent Film

This is pretty outrageous. First of all, who goes to see a movie without knowing the major details. Hell, the selling point of this film is that it's a silent flick. Maybe some people need to learn how to use Imdb.com!
A theater audience in Liverpool demanded that their tickets be refunded for a showing of The Artist after it became clear to them that there would be little sound in the movie aside from some music. After the "small group" of patrons stormed out of the theater, ushers made their way through the aisle to alert other viewers that the movie was a silent flick. A 25-year-old film fan simply "laughed" at the situation and thought it was "really funny" that people didn't read up about the film before seeing it.
LOL. All we imagine is some dude screaming from the 3rd row of the theater, "Sound … Sound … Sound!"
A spokesman for the theatre released this statement following, saying:
"Odeon Liverpool One can confirm it has issued a small number of refunds to guests who were unaware that The Artist was a silent film. The cinema is happy to offer guests a refund on their film choice is they raise concern with a member of staff within 10 minutes of the film starting."
Guess that's all it took!
Just so everyone who is reading this article is clear: The Artist is a SILENT, BLACK AND WHITE movie. The movie is thematic moved along through music, NOT dialogue. Just like in them olden days! But it will still be one of the most enjoyable movies you see this year, we think!
Any of U see it? What were your thoughts?

It is well known that some Americans are limited enough side brains… They do not remember Chaplin? Which band of imbecile.
Before going to see a movie, we inquire about what it speaks…
All this because this French movie won Goldens globe in front of Pitt or Clooney…
The American chauvinism will always make for me so much pity.
Re: FeeDesBulles – Liverpool is in the United Kingdom… It's apparently the "European Capital of Culture"…
You wanna take back all those comments about Americans now? Moron.
I don't know who is more ignorant.. the "small" group of people in Liverpool or FeeDesBulles who has no idea where Liverpool is!
The fact is, The Artist IS the best picture of the year and simply brilliant. The film is so well done that "sound" would have destroyed it. Dujardin and Bejo are a revalation and should be commended for their brilliant performances on screen. C'mon Liverpool (and I know it's not the whole city, only a small group of peole) give it another try!
Re: pj88 – How are those liverpoolians ignorant. Simple mistake. Possibly their lives don't revolve around what film critics say?! As for caledonia, where-ever you read that liverpool is the European Capital Of Culture, you were very much mis-informed. Its the most horrendous place you will ever go. I went there once to watch a football match and i will never ever go back.
FeeDesBules…Did you use some dodgy translator site because your grammar is appalling. Knob
It's Liverpool. They were probably only in there to shelter from the rain while they waited for the social security office to open so they could collect their benefits.
I'm surprised these Liverpudlians had chosen to see a film entitled "The Artist" to begin with. I thought their cinematic preference didn't stem much further than the Saw series and Piranha 3D. Then again, i'm evidently right. I'm just glad it didn't have subtitles, or we'd have a full blown riot on our hands!
Re: FeeDesBulles – This clearly says LIVERPOOL, as in the UK, not USA! Wow… some people! I'm an American, and I can't wait to see this film. Nice job trying to generalise an entire country, though, you ignorant twat!
Re: Truth_Is_A-Virus – The cinema probably was next door to the Job Centre.
Re: shoelace1002 – Haha unfortunately, I know. I'm an American living in Liverpool at the moment. Not my favorite place in the UK.. however, it was voted 2008 Capital of European Culture. And it's actually a pretty nice city (galleries, museums, cool buildings) but the people are a bit….eh.
Re: FeeDesBulles –
I like how you come to an American site and make yourself look more stupid than the people that left the movie. Do you know where Liverpool is? Here is a hint: It's not in America. Is the stench from your Frenchie body causing your reading comprehension to drop to that of a first grader? Ohhhh I love generalizations
Dumb assholes.
It is helpful to know something about the movie you are going to see. Do your research people!
Re: caledonia86 – Ditto.
Anyways, this makes me want to go see the movie. I have some doubts that you can actually enjoy a film with no sound, aside from some music. However, I think I might be surprised. People used to watch films like this all the time. Maybe I'll wait until it comes to Blockbuster Express. I'll give it a shot.
I wouldn't have expected this from a European audience, since the film is by a French director/cast etc. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt if they were American, since we're more detached from European cinema. But either way, it's only common sense to know a little about the film before you pay big bucks to see it.
dumb asses
Remember when American audiences walked out of the Tim Burton Sweeney Todd because they didn't realise it was a musical. I spend a lot of time at the cinema and it always amuses me when people walk out because a movie isn't quite what they expected. I was once in a showing of Snowtown, which is clearly advertised as being a graphic portrayal of an Australian serial killer gang, about half the audience walked out before the end, unable to stomach it. Or the old lady who loudly stormed out of True Grit muttering 'THAT'S not John Wayne'. she hadn't realised it was a remake.
Re: shoelace1002 – Liverpool was officially the European Capital of Culture for 2008. Wiki it and you'll see. Next time do a little research before you rant.
Re: overthere – Wasn't ranting. It is an horrendous place, i suppose the few people who actually voted were all high at the time. Wikipedia is not the place to go for legitimate sources either
There are too many idiots in this world. Why would anyone watch a movie without at least seeing a trailer, or knowing what the film is about. It's like that woman who sued the movie Drive for not having more action packed Driving in the film. Or those people who wanted their money back for Tree of Life because they didn't realize what type of film it was.
I'm actually very excited to see The Artist, loved the trailer when I saw it a few years ago.
ignorant people seriously how can u not know it's a silent film. Obviously these people have no class and don't appreciate the classics.
Re: futuremrslabeouf – The UK may be in Europe, but it's more similar to America in terms of culture than you would think. Spend a week in Liverpool and see how stereotypically "European" the natives are. I think Americans tend to have a completely skewed view of what British culture is like. I love it here and wouldn't return to the US, but it's definitely not how many Americans expect it to be.
Idiots, 'European Capital of Culture'? Really?
I find it amusing that so many of you are calling eachother idiots, or quick to point out and put eachother down for making généralisations when you're doing the same thing to us Scousers. I don't feel the need to defend my city or my fellow Scousers, but if you come to visit Liverpool with such narrow minded stereotypes, then I feel bad for you for letting yourself be blinded by that misjudgement.
I happen to be Scouse and went to see The Artist on a special preview over a month ago; not only did not walk out (as only a small group did, as one person fairly pointed out above), but actually enjoyed the experience very much and thought that this is one of the best films I've seen in a long while. Such a simple yet brilliant love story played out on the big screen, and shot so true to the original silent films, but with the advantages of modern editing. I was genuinely surprised when the entire audience laughed out loud, myself included! Uggie should earn an Oscar for best dog actor in film, if only there were such a thing.
Re: ProudScouser – To be fair, I'd be saying the same thing if this had happened in my city.
