That was fast!
There's no Lifetime movie yet, but Discovery Channel is jumping at the opportunity to investigate the recent cruise ship tragedy in Italy.
The network announced plans to air a special this Spring that will examine the cause of the disaster and how cowardly Captain Francesco Schettino was involved.
Some are criticizing Discovery for turning tragedy into money, but we're definitely curious to find out more details of what went wrong aboard this luxury liner. A statement from the network read:
"The world has been horrified and captivated by the real life drama of the Costa Concordia disaster. With so many unanswered questions, Discovery will piece together not only the immediate events, but the bigger story of what comes next in recovery and restoration."
In the meantime, Dr. Phil has been talking to American passengers who survived the ordeal. Georgia Ananias reiterated that neither the captain or crew were anywhere to be seen when disaster struck, saying:
"It's just unbelievable. At that point, we didn't know. One thing that we did know, though, it wasn't just the captain that wasn't there. None of the officers were there … There wasn't one other person who could say, 'We need to get these people off. Why not put these people in the lifeboats?'"
Despicable! How could these guys just leave their passengers? Hopefully that's a question the Discovery Channel special can answer for us!
