Garth Brooks Can Not Be Played; Wins Lawsuit Against Swindling Hospital

It's his money and he can do what he wants with it!

Garth Brooks made quite a generous donation to an Oklahoma hospital shortly after the death of his mother, who died in 1999. He earmarked $500K to go to the IntegrisCanadian Valley Regional Hospital's women's health center, hoping to help other people's mothers, sisters, aunts, etc. who are also suffering from cancer.

Instead, the hospital took Garth's money and started funneling it out to other projects without his consent, so Garth dragged them to court. Today, not only was Garth vindicated, but the hospital has been ordered to pay Garth back $1 million dollars, half in returning his donation and half in punitive damages for breaching their contract.

They say no good deed goes unpunished, but we don't see it that way in this case. Now, Garth has double the money to give to ANOTHER organization that will honor his mother the way she ought to be.

Alls well that ends well.

Good job Garth. Way to go. What a slimey hospital.

  5. 5

The Hospital said that he didn't specify where the donation should go. Why are we congratulating him for not only taking back a donation but making the hospital pay him $500K? He's an A S S !

  6. 6

They're not too smart at that hospital.

  7. 7

what? crazy…nice "donation"…sort of a way to make money…they did not have to take another 500k from the hospital ..come on..

What's being left out here is that, according to what I've read, there was no written contract, just a verbal agreement and a handshake. So, should the hospital have honored his wishes and instead of shadily funneling money elsewhere? Yes. Was their handshake legally binding? Well, I don't know the law, but why not take the little bit of extra time and get it in writing, Garth?? Now this legal precedent has been set…I think I'm going to go make some good-ol'-boy handshake deals in Rogers County and then sue when the other person doesn't hold up their end.

They failed to name a part of the hospital after his mother, which was the agreement. They didn't follow the stipulations, so they should be forced to pay up.

The hospital didn't follow through with their VERBAL agreement. Nothing was in writing. He's has a right to take his DONATION back, but taking that extra money? Slimeball.
