Let's see what the network has to say about their music competition shows!

During a recent interview, Fox's president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell opened up about the recent X Factor firings AND American Idol's ratings.

Here's what he had to say about X Factor:

"Season 1 was basically an audition act. Simon got one big new star out of it — L.A. Reid, and that was great casting. There's going to be a natural reassessment."

"Paula was an interesting call She and Simon are great friends, so it was just a dynamic conversation about what's the nature of the group going to be. And I think we decided to pull the Band-Aid off as quickly as possible."

"There definitely will be lots of different changes in the show."

And here's what Darnell had to say about Idol's ratings:

"There's no question there’s a glut of [singing competition shows that are] affecting the numbers for Idol. It's the granddaddy, it’s run is unprecedented. I think that considering all the other shows and its age, it's doing quite well. Having both shows on our air has put us in an incredibly strong position as a network."

"It would be nice to reign forever as No. 1. But if Idol ever becomes a second- or third-place show, it still has a much bigger impact and value than most other shows because it accounts for so many more hours. Obviously all shows come down, but to still be at this level is amazing, and we’re really grateful for that."

We certainly appreciate the candidness, and we'll look forward to seeing what happens with both X Factor and Idol as the shows move forward this year!

What do U think? Are U still tuning in for Idol? Will U be watching the revamped second season of X Factor???

You freaken act like Idol and XF are like bottom of the ratings, and they are not. Let's face you have been passed over and over to be judge on AI and XF, they only thing you can judge is the pair of boxes on your bedroom floor are fresh or dirty. Who died and picked you whats hot and what's not, you have no understanding of the currtent state of network rating and the impact of cable station that now broadcast ordingal programming . FUCK OFF!
