We love you, Patrick Stewart!
The actor is standing up for women's rights and against domestic violence. Stewart's mother was a victim of domestic abuse and he has become a advocate of Refuge, the U.K.'s first women's shelter.
However, Refuge is facing strict budget limitations and Stewart pleads with the public to help.
He recounts a particularly sad story:
Last year I met an incredibly brave woman called Sharon de Souza. In 2008 Sharon's daughter Cassie was brutally murdered by Cassie's former partner in front of their two small children. At the time of her death, Cassie was trying to flee to a refuge. Sadly, her story is not an isolated one. Domestic violence kills two women every single week in England and Wales. If we don't preserve vital escape routes for victims, this number – already horrifically high – will only rise
Two women per week?! What is wrong with men out there?!
Stewart has written about his household problems and encourages women to seek help when they are abused.
He asks the public to support Refuge and other shelters by appealing to the government's cuts.
We're behind you, Patrick!
