Watch LL Cool J's Opening Prayer For Whitney Houston

So incredibly powerful, and so touching.

With the death of Whitney Houston still fresh in everyone's minds at the start of this year's 54th Grammy Awards, host LL Cool J took a moment at the beginning of the ceremony to say a prayer for the recently-passed icon.

Watch (above).

Perfectly done.

We can't imagine there was a dry eye in the house.

May Whitney R.I.P.

Why does everything have to have a fucking commercial!

A Christian prayer. Awkward, inappropriate. These are the Grammy awards, not the Country Music Awards. I don't even think they would play with that.

How many MORE TIMES are you going to refer to dry eyes? You being sponsored by eye drops now???

Re: everyonehatesmario – Well they did play it, so keep you're insensitivity to yourself

    you people are ass holes.

I think that the prayer was a really moving way to address the loss of Whitney Houston while carrying on with the Grammy Awards ceremony….she has gospel roots after all….

    RIP Whitney

God kicked Whitney's ass and sent her to hell for eternity. God hates Whitney Houston, no prayers for druggie whores.

What about all the kids losing their lives over seas DAILY!?!? Military, Women, and children in Syria, or how about all the people dying of starvation. It's not to be insensitive, but she was a druggie that could sing. In life no more important than anyone else. So why the hell is she more important than innocent people? We have our priorities so screwed up.

Re: Rocketboy – Those people didn't touch the lives of anyone else. Who cares about some starving little mongrel in Somalia? Whitney Houston had millions of fans, and achieved amazing things. Some lives ARE more valuable than others. They're all roasting in hell for eternity though.

Re: everyonehatesmario – She was a Christian you moron, so it was very appropriate to address it with prayer. Thought it was a very classy, eloquent, appropriate way to address such a tragic loss - way to go LL! Yes, she had her demons and flaws like everyone else, but deserves some respect at this sad time. So reserve your nasty comments for yourself. She has friends and family who don't need to be subjected to hateful public remarks like yours. As Taylor Swift would say, "All you'll ever be is mean".

I wonder if Dionne Warwick will use her friends from the Psychic Friends Network to communicate with Whitney Houston. Cause we all remember how she used to swear by that!

I don't really mind the prayer but some people in the audience seemed very uncomfortable. Not sure if it was appropriate to shove religion on your audience but I understand the love LL was showing.

i was a bit taken a back that they did a prayer to open the grammys.. seems kinda insensitive to other religions…would have been nice to have said some kind words and had a moment of silence for her.. i thought the prayer part didn't really belong in a musical awards show tho.
