Because of that, Sunday's broacast skyrocketed from last year's event with a 46% increase in ratings. In total, the averaged to 39 million viewers, all watching on to see the music community bid farewell to beloved one of their own.

From LL Cool J's opening prayer to Jennifer Hudson's tribute above, the awards were packed with condolences for the fallen singer.

Other networks made sure to stay out of the way too, holding mostly reruns - except ABC, whose shows posted all times lows, including Once Upon A Time.

The 2012 Grammys only follow the 1984 show for the highest rated Grammy broadcast, the year before Whitney released her first studio album.

Jennifer is really something and so brave to sing Whitney´s song. Jennifer cannot sing like Whitney, though, Whitney cannot sing like Jennifer. God Bless both of these lovely ladies. RIP Whitney. We will always love you.

Oh please Perez!!! It had nothing to do with Whitney Houston, nobody cared about that crack addict has been last week and nobody is going to be talking about her next week!! The ratings were there because of the talent performing like Adele, Rhianna, Nicki Minaj, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and others. The death of Houston is nothing but another footnote and is shameful how everyone is mourning her…Where were they when she was struggling without a hit or a record contract!! Why didn't J-Hud or others asked her to perform with them???? Is transparent, the prayers and good wishes should have been given to her when she was alive, when she really needed it!! Only Clive Davis stood by her, while everyone including her family, turned their backs on her!!!
