70 comments to “Sherri Shepherd Defends Chris Brown, Calls Him A "Role Model"”

  1. 1

Any woman who condones a man beating another woman is a senseless idiot. How unbelievably insulting. Nothing excuses his behavior, not even a public apology. Once a man does this, he will do it again and nothing changes that.

  2. 2

I have a problem with her comments because she is black. I whole heartedly believe that if this was a white man, she would be saying "DOWN WITH HIM!!!"
I agree, though…that people deserve second chances. However..I just…idk if I'm buying it.

  3. 3

Oh boo hoo with your forgiving and forgetting crap. The only person who has any right to comment on ths is RHIANNA - nobody else. She was the victim after all.

  4. 4

I disagree that he has owned up to his mistakes. He freaks out every time it is mentioned and he has a continued history of acting like an entitled child. I have seen no evidence that he is working towards being a better man. If what she said was true, I would agree with her - especially considering his very young age when it happened, but so far, I am not impressed. Too bad - because he is really talented.

  5. 5

Sherri is the role model for women who get repeatedly abused. They don't like the abuse, but when their man comes back all sweet and admits his mistake, they take the guy right back, OVER and OVER again.

I respect that he's trying to improve himself, but making him out to be some kind of role model makes Sherri look like an enabling fool.

  6. 6

chris brown has not apologised, he feels no remorse, and hates the media for reminding him that he got caught. Let's face it, if that cop hadn't leaked that photo of Rihanna's beat-down, the majority would not believe the extent of the injuries brown inflicted on her.
Shame on shepherd and the culture that condones brown's behaviour.

  7. 7

After all these years, he has yet to take full accountability fow what he did. Every interview he's like 'Uhhh, I feel real bad about what happened" as if he's talking about an event that was out of his control and that's what bothers me. Then he makes a record called 'forgive all my enemies', as if he's the victim in this situation.

  8. 8

which would be so great if it was true but hes shown hes still the right little asshole many times.. owning up is great but changing is another thing and he seems unchanged..still tantrumming all over the place

  9. 9

There's also a difference Between showing regret because everyone asked you to and actually regretting it…

  10. 10

Sherry is correct, it does take a man to own up to his mistakes.Problem is Chris is no man.

  11. 11

Sherri, Whoopi, and and some women are sick in the head. A "mistake" is forgetting to put money in the meter not beating a woman and leaving her for dead.

  12. 12

You dont need to forgive or forget what he did, you need to separate the man, the asshole that he is, from the music, the good music he makes. As I said before, should he win man of the year? Probably not, but should he be rewarded for making good music? Why not?

  13. 13

Re: litnight – Unless your name is Rihanna then you do not know if Chris has apologized, he doesnt owe you one honey.

  14. 14

Are you fucked Perez? he loses his mind every time someone brings up the incident, not once has he shown remorse.

  15. 15

She's an idiot. He punched and BIT a woman. There is no defense. 30 years ago he would have been drummed out of the industry. Does she seriously think he can be forgiven? Does she want her daughter or other female relatives to go through abuse? Would it be okay if the person doing the abuse was famous?
I think the ONLY thing Chris Brown regrets is that he got caught and that people have a long memory.

  16. 16

A black person condoning violence. Shocker…..

  17. 17

Actually, he "DIDN'T" own up to what he did. He is close to completing what the courts have demanded, but He's never owned up to it.

When Kanye upstaged Taylor Swift, he not only apologized and said that he was wrong, but when all the Twitta-gangsta's unloaded on him, he never challenged them…..he never claimed that they didn't know the full story and should keep their mouths shut until they know the facts……he also never stormed out of interviews violently destroying property on his way out the door. Kanye owned up to all the backlash simply saying, "I deserve it".

That's called "remorse". Something I have yet to see Chris Brown even attempt as of yet.

  18. 18

I'M sure this is not politically correct to say, but I think blacks are more accepting of violence, they are more likely to come from homes where woman are unmarried, have children with different men, and are more needy

  19. 19

Sherri is out of her mind! He has never owned up to his "mistake" and busts up dressing rooms when the "mistake' is even mentioned. Can't wait until his community work service is up in Hanover County so he can go back to La La Land with Sherri so the women in my town can be safe from this abuser. Wonder if Sherri would be so quick to jump to his defense if he was of another color.

  20. 20

Bull shit. He still goes off on rants and loses his temper. WE HAVE seen it over and over again. What planet does she live on? He's a train wreck waiting to happen, and he will go off on someone again, and next time it will be worse. She's full of shit. He has not learned to control his temper. Anyone can see that.

  21. 21

Re: litnight – he did apoligize in interviews . but the only apology that should matter is his apology going to rihanna. I'm pretty sure he did apologize to her though. But no one knows really .. only them 2

  22. 22

i like chris brown but those girls are stupid! Never in my life would i say something like that. They obviously have no respect for themselves and thats just pathetic.. I do agree with the view girls though.

  23. 23

What about the rumors that Brown has been seeing Rihanna for several months if not longer?? And how come we never hear about Sherri Shepherd's exercise regimen?

  24. 24

Re: jaystarr – THIS! He loses control anytime it gets brought up, showing that not only isn't he remorseful, but he hasn't done anything to mitigate the temper that had him beating his girlfriend who caught him cheating.

  25. 25

I'm not quite on the side of Brown myself but to be fair, you have to consider the context of sherri's comments. She didn't mean role model in general or a role model for all. She was speaking of him being a role model to other people who have been through similar ordeals. Chris brown made a VERY big mistake and paid for it legally, personally, and professionally. He still has gotten back to the level he was at success-wise before the rihanna business. Now he seems to be putting his career back together while maturing at least a little, and everyone involved, rihana included, seems to be ready to move on. Chris brown might be considered a role model in the sense that there is hope for other people who have made VERY big mistakes that have negatively affected their lives and are sincerely sorry for their actions and wish to move on. It doesn't absolve them of their actions but it shows that people can overcome mistakes, take their due punishment and still find success like Chris Brown.

  26. 26

as someone who's been in an abusive relationship, that is not something to forgive. physical abuse is rarely just physical. it's mental and emotional abuse as well. and if you study abusers, they rarely actually change. chris brown has not shown that he has learned what he did wrong or that he's remorseful. he's been talking about people moving on from him beating the crap out of a woman since it's happened.

people in general are very forgiving towards abusers and it's sickening. i don't even consider him a human and it pisses me off when people, especially women, downplay what he did and act like it was a mistake that needs to be forgiven. when someone makes a mistake they don't intend on hurting someone, it's something they did not mean to happen. chris purposefully beat rihanna. he did it with the intention of hurting her. to him, the mistake was getting caught. that's it. that is not a reason to forgive a monster. sorry.

  27. 27

Re: shutittwat – so you're telling me that if hitler was alive and making music, you'd listen to it and want him to win awards and perform? seriously? i'm not calling chris hitler but to say that you need to separate actions from the performer is insane. did you feel that way about roman polanski when it came out that he raped a girl?

  28. 28

LOVE HIM. Over it. Didn't forget, but over it

  29. 29

Who are we to judge??? Let's forgive and if you can't forget then don't buy or listen to his music. That was Sherri's opinion and I feel she's entitled to it.

  30. 30

Sherri Shepherd is a moron. Nobody should take anything this woman says seriously. Let's not forget she seriously thought that the world was flat. She is as dumb as a box of rocks. Chris Brown is a punk. He is a very violent person that will find himself in trouble again.

  31. 31

OK, I usually can't stand Sherri Shepherd, BUT…..at least she tried to put the situation into perspective. Even though SOME of what she said may be true, the biggest question still lingers…..should this person be given awards and financial accolades? OR…should this person be a motivational speaker at anger management classes?

  32. 32

Chris Brown is a big homophobe. He can apologize all he wants for that and for beating women, but both actions show the character of the person he is. No apologize can make up for that. Only actions. Up to now he's done nothing.

  33. 33

Re: blondly7 – Exactly, "they" do tend to stick together.

  34. 34

#18 - I didn't know that Susan Sarandon, Melanie Griffith, Kate Hudson, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Connolly. . .(shall I go on?). . .are Black! Don't they have children by several different men? Hmm. . .

  35. 35

The title of "role model" is a poor choice of words. It's a stretch for the likes of Chris Brown. He's an illiterate, arrogant, unrepentant as*shole! That title should be reserved for people who take care of the elderly, or terminally ill; not some woman beater who said "I'm sorry" while under duress. Sherri's head is so far up his a*ss, but why? I do know that she's had more than 5 abortions and she used to BEG her chronically unfaithful ex-husband to take her back. Sherri probably feels like every woman deserves to be beaten at one point or another. She has very low esteem and is uneducated. She has diabetes, yet eats a bunch of stuff a person with diabetes should not eat like a disgusting pig on the show. I gag everytime I see her attacking food when they have a food segment. She's a buffoon.

  36. 36

Sherri Shepherd is a piece of shit. Fat, black, ugly, dumb.

  37. 37

  38. 38

Not only does she think he deserves forgiveness for not putting effort into changing or owing up to what he did, but she also downplays what feminism did for women in the workforce. Nice to know this woman is ahead of her time.

  39. 39

Sherri Shepherd is a idiot. No "Man" puts his hands on a woman. Sorry Chris, your man card has been revoked.

  40. kp226 says – reply to this

perez, i really don't appreciate your misleading description. EVERYONE, WATCH THE VIDEO TO REALLY SEE WHAT SHERRI SHEPHERD IS SAYING

  41. 41

Sherri's not known for her impressive intellect! And please stop acting as if Chris Brown is over his anger issues, because he isn't. It wasn't too long ago that he smashed a window at ABC after an interview didn't go the way he wanted!

  42. 42

  43. 43

    What a stupid sow.

  44. 44

Sherri is one of the most ignorant REVERSE RACISTS on the planet. Thank God Octavia Spencer is getting Oscar-worthy roles and Sherri is a joke; getting lame roles like One For The Money or whatever the latest Katherine Heigl train wreck was. SHUT UP REVERSE RACIST SHERRI SHEPHERD!!!

  45. 45

I thought girls wanted to be treated equal? So, you want equality..You cry sexism..but if you get punched by a male you instantly revert back to the "zomg I'm a girl". So which is it? Do you want equality OR are you still going to go on a witch hunt for a woman hitter? It's not a one way street.

That said, HE did a crime. He was PUNISHED for it. He did his community service and served out the rest of his punishment. Now its time to move on. FFS.

  46. 46

Everyone does deserve second chances but he's proven that he's a hot head and an arrogant fool. His tweet after the Grammy's slamming the haters shows how immature he still is. He didn't learn his lesson. Shame on anyone that values entertainment more than justice. Shame on anyone who disregards violence against women just because the guy can dance. And shame on any woman who says, "he can beat me anyday".

  47. 47

Did any of you care to listen to what Sherry was saying? Or did you just noticed her black skin and assumed to play the race card by making dumb ass statements like "She's supporting him because he's black," or "well she's a black person, what do you expect?" And by the way, I noticed some comments mention Whoopi supporting Sherry too. Um, Whoopi simply introduced the topic. Do you really want to get into the discussion of violence of any kind within the white community? I suggest those of you seeking to make this into a race discussion to get some serious education on violence within racial groups. Chris is obviously a victim of his past being that he witness violence in the home against his mother. He did everything that was asked of him and did many interviews at length in 2009 discussing that night and his past. You people are saying Sherry would be "down on the white man" if the situation was reverse. If that was the case, Sherry would have lambasted the shit out of Charlie Sheen when it was announced that he would get a TV show on FX after all of his antics during 2011. There are a helluva lot of white male celebritieswho have committed violence against women. Obviously, it feels different maybe more accepted for Charlie Sheen to put one of his ex-wives in the hospital for nearly a month in December 2010.

  48. 48

Sheri is entitled to her opinion which does not make it right or wrong . For me the bigger issue is why has domestic abuse remained such a huge problem. I think we should start teach our kids in school ,non violent means of dealing with conflict. An I think more gender neutral conditioning may reap some benefits for us also. We live in a culture that condones violence vs other alternatives.

  49. 49

    Re: michaelz
There's no such thing as reverse racism you ignoramus. Anyone who discriminates against someone on the basis of their skin color is a racist period. I swear white people and your colorful terms. Reverse racism, race card, whatever else you people say whenever a black do the unthinkable - defend another (gasp!) black person! Yes, it's all about racism with Sherry. So, I guess the white media personalities who "understandably" sympathize and somewhat defend Charlie Sheen because he is a friend and they know him are just totally raaaaacist. I guess when the Academy Awards honor Josh Brolin with 2 Oscar nominations, oh my god it was so raaaaacist! Don't get me started on how Axl Rose, Ozzy Osbourne, Tommy Lee, Eminem continue to make a living a music. That's so raaaacist for these white music executives and powerful predominately white music corporations continue to give these guys a chance. Oh my god, I totally hate it whenever the late John Lennon is always honor for something after beating the shit out of his first wife and never had any remorse for it. UGH! Raaaacism!

  50. 50

    Re: xhollax

Um, Whoopi simply introduced the clip. Where did she outright defend Chris Brown as a role model? Oh wait, I get it. She's black, Sherry's black, and Chris is black. So, of course it's the black thang. Love white people and your limited capabilities of thinking and listening to a clip without resorting to bullshit comments to summarize your obvious distain for a celebrity you don't even know.

  51. 51

    Re: blondly7
Clearly. I don't know how this issue became a race discussion, but I'm pretty sure Sherry is looking at it from all angles. Chris is a product of a someone who witness domestic violence against his mother. If you listen to the clip, without feeling that anger or tingling of "she's only saying it because he's black like her" you would hear her side of the situation. And by the way, if Sherry was really this racist you implied her to be, then she would have lambasted the shit out of Charlie Sheen for getting a show after all of his antics in 2010. She would have attacked Josh Brolin and his Oscar nomination last year. She would have protested Eminem's performance at the Grammy's last year. And lets not mention the film projects Mel Gibson has lined up - producing or otherwise. She would bitching about why Mel is given any chance to make another film. Don't do the race angle. Domestic violence is too serious of an issue for you people to play the tired ass race card.

  52. 52

    Re: jaystarr
I know. Just like others who haven't shown remorse for their crimes against women. List is too long to name, but I get it with the hate against Chris Brown. Even after all the interviews he did in 2009 on the incident and his past. Even after all of the classes and other measures he took to learn from this situation, it's not enough for you people. Perhaps, strip him of his entire music career for something that happen when he was 19. Yeah, because it's not enough to see him of all people reaping success 3 years later. It's more acceptable when "others" beat the shit out of women. After all, it's their business and you're only about their work as a musician, actor, or what have you.

  53. 53

Re: NookiesWA – Equal Rights you IDIOT! And they're not girls, they're women!

  54. 54

This woman must be an imbecile.

  55. 55

Sorry SHerri, it does NOT take a big man to own up to your mistakes, there is nothing spectacular about taking responsibility. I guess you like what you like but I disagree with your assesment of this whole Chris Brown thing.

  56. 56

Who listens to that COW or anyone on The View? Bunch of scorned women gossiping

He'll beat on some other woman soon enough . . .

  57. 57

As A Black woman I would like to say That Shari Sheppard is a disgrace and an embarassment to us. She is a buffoon and is so completely out of touch with reality for working classed people that I am nauseated by her …period. She is nothing more that a characture of what wealthy white people imagine we Black people to be…and tO top it all off her wedding pictures looked worse than those at a small midwestern towns prom. She has no class…no taste and when sh speaks on this show, just like whoopi and The blond loud one, you can actually tell that someone in anouther room is telling them what to say. This show has turned into a pathetic joke…Star Jones may have been a Diva, but she was at leats an educated Diva who could formulate her own sentences without being told what to say…Barbara Walters just dummed down her entire show when she got this current cast…and youcant even comment on episodes anymore…They know the comments are so often negative.

  58. 58

#57 - Amen! You said it! The show was so smart when Meredith Viera was the moderator and Lisa Ling was the "young" one. And, like you said, even Star Jones with her annoying ass was intelligent and must-see-TV and not because of saying something stupid like. . .the world is flat. I love Whoopi in movies, but she's HORRIBLE as the moderator on The View. She sits there, daily, unprepared and mouthing off about stuff she doesn't have a clue about. She thinks that whatever she says is the gospel. She's an ignorant know-it-all and she knows NOTHING!! Sherri is ridiculously STUPID!! God, she makes me cringe. They always have to have the fat, black, loud, dumb co-host. Look at The Talk. Sheryl Underwood is educated, but comes off as a Sarafina. She se*xually harasses every man that comes on the show, and speaks EXTRA country, and tries her best to speak ebonics. Another BUFFOON!! Thank God for Aisha Tyler so that white folks can see that not all Blacks are ignorant buffoons.

  59. 59

maybe she needs a good beating ..holy cow..we accept that, Rape in Movies and violence violence and more..next time we have to be easy on a childmolester , too

  60. 60

Sherri has, is and will always be the "go to" stupid one on the view.

  61. 61

This is why I can't stand blacks. The biggest mistake in American history was bringing them over here even as slaves.

  62. 62

#61 - if Blacks weren't brought over here, then who would your mom be f*cking right now?

  63. 63

Re: litnight – totally agree with you.
Are ther 152 weeks in a year? Sherri, Sherri ,Sherri, stop tweeting and read a book hun

  64. 64

Sherri was RIGHT. Chris faced just as much, and as two 19 year old, BOTH Rihanna and Chris should have been tended to. Now 3 years later, you haters STILL think you can tear him down? He worked hard BY HIMSELF to bring him to the point he is at now, with the help of God and TeamBreezy. No one was there for him. Now that he's having success, everyone is trying to drag him down. No matter what, Chris Brown took MORE responsibility than Eminem, Charlie Sheen, Sean Penn, or any of those WHITE celebs ever did in their LONG histories of criminal abuse. THAT makes his progress commendable. Chris witnessed so much as a child and no one was there for him to get over those demos. Perez u r so WISHY WASHY ad judgmental! God bless your hypocritical soul

  65. 65

Perez is talking about HATE, but6 Chris has never and could never spew the amount of HATRED on this very site. You encourage RACIST people onto this site, and its a shame. They are no different than the racist fool that runs the site.

  66. 66

Re: blondly7 – excuse me but it has absolutly nothing to do with race or colour of skin. This is purely a difference of opinion dispute and you bring race into it? im a white women and im very offended by your comment. As for chris brown, i do not condone abuse of any kind to women or men, however she does make some good points. how long are we going to harsh this out? if rhianna can forgive him (she invited him to her birthday party) then we should try to as well. let him try to fix his life so that this doesnt become a pattern.

  67. 67

Re: ugghhhSTFU – wow you too with the racist comments what the hell is going on here. I'm white and it disgusts me that people say these things. keep it to the debate dont bring race into it

  68. 68

Re: MarioLardvagina – this comment is even worse maybe you should take a history class u idiot. Im a history major and you obviously do not understand the history of slavary or the struggles the black community as gone through. im disgusted by how many uneducated people there are. culturally uneducated and academically un educated

  69. 69

Re: Petramy – No thirty years ago he, like Roman pulanski would have fled to Europe and kept on doing his thing…fifty years ago he would ahve had no consequence at all..

  70. 70

Re: MR Pete – You are a bigot…and you have no right to claim any knowledge of what Black women are or are not willing to accept…sadly niether is she…whice brings us to the problemm..which is that her mouth is open and she has , once again put ehr foot into it.Re: Petramy – No thirty years ago he, like Roman pulanski would have fled to Europe and kept on doing his thing…fifty years ago he would ahve had no consequence at all..
