Sean Penn Takes On UK Media Over Argentina!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooAnglophiliaRoyals RoyceMedia MinutePolitikSean Penn

sean penn vs uk media

This is getting ugly, quickly.

Sean Penn has gone on the offensive against the United Kingdom regarding their dispute with Argentina "over the islands both countries claim in the far South Atlantic."

He's accusing UK media of pushing war as opposed to diplomacy! Here's what he had to say about it:

"Good journalism saves the world. Bad journalism destroys it."

"My oh my, aren't people sensitive to the word 'colonialism,' particularly those who implement colonialism."

And here's Sean on Prince William's six-week air force mission to the islands:

"It's unthinkable that the United Kingdom can make a conscious decision to deploy a prince within the military to the Malvinas, knowing the great emotional sensitivity both of mothers and fathers in the United Kingdom and in Argentina who lost sons and daughters in a war over islands with a population of so few."

"There are many places to deploy a prince. It's not necessary when the deployment of a prince is generally accompanied by a warship, to send them into seas of such spilled blood."

Members of the UK media are NOT pleased with Sean over his comments, and we'd imagine that the UK in general is not on Team Penn right now…and probably won't be anytime soon.

What do U think? Do U agree with Sean Penn's comments? Or do U think it's not his place to get involved???

    he's got a point.
Besides, why are they sending warships anyways?

  2. 2

Sean Penn is a dumb ass wife beating Hollywood brat. He has no business speaking about anything to do with either counrty. Why do these actors think fame equals intelligence or political point of view that others would wish to hear. Altho God knows why the Argies or the Brits want with that piece of rock ( OIL ).

  3. 3

He's an idiot who has know idea what he's talking about other than the fact that he has to be on what most people consider the "wrong" side just to be controversial. The Falklands have been British since the 1800s. The situation is like if the Domincan Republic suddenly decided that Puerto Rico should belong to it simply because of it's close proximity, ignoring the fact that it has been a US commonwealth since the early 1900s. It is unfortunate that Penn took a break from blowing Hugo Chavez to speak about something he's so uninformed about.

Sean Penn is unbelievably pathetic, with all of the trouble politicly and financially going on in his country, shouldnt he be focusing on that rather than pretending to know everything about another country. And as for the whole warships thing, its okay when the Brits help YOUR country with THEIR war isnt it, not a single complaint there, and this is the thanks they get, no support what so ever when they are fighting their own battles rather than giving you a hand with yours.

  5. 5

Who asked for his opinion? What a pompous ass! Stick with acting Sean, you're only mediocre at that, and don't speak about politics when you have not been elected by anyone.

  6. 6

Sean…. Stick to you day job Champ….

A Britsh former army leader said this: "What on earth has this got to do with Sean Penn? He's neither British nor Argentine and seems to know nothing about the situation judging by this moronic comment. A good number of his movies have been turkeys, so I suppose we shouldn't expect much better coming out of his mouth.' haha well said i think!

Re: GuidetteInItaly – So, what is his the point exactly? Despite the fact that the inhabitants of the falklands identify as British and want to remain so, their entire history should be yanked out from under them and they should be forced to move to the UK (a country they've never actually lived in) or become Argentinian when they don't speak Spanish? The future of the islands should not be based on their proximity to the closest country. That is absolutely ridiculous logic. If we're going along those lines, why doesn't Argentina fuck off and succeed to Spain considering their country was founded by conquistadors who murdered the natives?

    Stupid argument is stupid.

Sean Penn has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. The Brits have inhabited the Falklands since the 1800's and the Argentines are the ones aggravating the situation with their stupid accusations of Britain militarising the area. It's a UK warship on routine patrol around the coast of a British island. If the Argentines think one ship is a militarisation then god knows who they would react if the Brits sent a flotilla of military resources. They would probably think WW3 had started. Secondly why doesn't Sean Penn and the Argentine president, the inane Kercher, go to the Falklands and personally knock on the door of every islander and ask them what nationality they want to be? They wouldn't because they know the islanders would say British. Argentina is using this issue to mask the discontent currently rippling through their country as their economy falters, and their huge social and well fare budgets are about to be cut. And as for attacking the UK journalism, the UK has some of the top quality papers in the world and yes there has been some issues with certain ones lately but the UK practically birthed the type of journalism the world has today and I'm not even English. Sean Penn should run back to Chavez and mind his own business, he's acting like he's a fucking diplomat, he's a fucking Hollywood actor!! sorry rant over!!!

The only good thing he has ever done in his life is bitch slab Madonna

Clearly none of you know nothing abut this subject. Cameron had no right of using the word colonialism when speaking about the Argentinians. The Malvinas belong to Argentina because they are in Argentinian territory, like it or not. UK simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of the Argentine Sea. What do you expect people to think if they send a warship to their territory, seriously? You have no idea how much suffer the Malvinas War has caused, you simply don't know anything about it. Apparently you can talk about this as if you knew everything, just like Sean Penn. And why would you make that comment @lolcat about Argentina and Spain. That's fucking stupid and unnecessary. And for your information, the President's name is not Kercher, it's Fenandez de Krichner.

Im sure the United Kingdom and diplomats around the world are shaking in their boots because a high school dropout turned actor is getting pissy (and self-promoting publicity).

  13. @v@ says – reply to this

I'm not sure if I agree with him, but he says what a lot of others have probably been thinking when it's unpopular to do so; and that's why I like him.

  14. 14

Its actually very funny that you people are criticizing sean penn when you are doing the exact same thing… just because you read some random article doesnt mean you are well informed about the subject. I would love to see how you people would react if another country started taking oil from your national sea and anchored a warship right there. thanks to @birthdayface for giving some true information to this bunch of ignorats

  15. 15

Colonialism is alive and well. This is what Albert Memmi described in his 1965 book The Colonizer and the Colonized.

  16. 16

to quote One member of the British Parliament Patrick Mercer, a famed British Army veteran, also ripped Penn – calling his views “moronic and nonsense." .”
Mercer added, Penn “seems to know nothing about the situation” — and “A good number of his movies have been turkeys, so I suppose we shouldn’t expect much better coming out of his mouth.”

the MP is absolutely correct Penn is a moron.

    Re: birthdayface
Your logic is stupid. Basing ownership on land based on proximity is ridiculous. You have a total strawman argument. Just because the falklands belonged to Argentina 200 years ago, that doesn't change their current ownership. You didn't respond to my point about Hawaii. Many Hawaiians don't think they should be part of the US, the island was taken by force and has been a US state since 1914 (less time than the falklands have been British). If it was just and right for all land masses to be given to their former owners then all the white people would be shoved into Europe while the native populations were given back the rest of the world. I don't see how you fail to see that what you're supporting is EXACTLY the same as Spain invading Argentina. You clearly fail to grasp the situation. I would also love to hear you expand on what horrible hardships are currently being endured. The islands' inhabitants ALL identify as British. If it were given back to Argentina the lives of every single inhabitant would be disrupted just to make Argentina feel powerful. So really, if you have some amazing insight into this situation that makes that proposition sound less horrible for the people on the islands I'm sure we would all love to hear it.

Lookingbatvhim makes me remember how he beat Madonna with a bat. But that's been years ago and he seems he got his shit together. But this article about the Brit, he needs to leave that alone.

  21. 21

I really dislike his comments about Prince William being deployed. I mean, despite his roya status, he is still a RAF pilot. Plus, I think it looks good on him; a prince going to the frontline, just like in the old ages!

  22. 22

Regardless of the issue at hand celebrities NEED to stop getting involved in politics!

Re: raypearson – i know, he is a douche and does NOT represent all Americans at all, the vast majority of you are understanding and are not quick to judge, just because he has all of these ridiculous views doesnt mean all of you do. Tarring people with the same brush is stupid, so dont worry about it B-)
