Sony: Sorry For Accidentally Capitalizing Off Whitney Houston's Death!!

| Filed under: Music MinuteWhitney HoustonBusiness Blitz

When Whitney Houston's death prompted an immediate skyrocket effect in album sales, some of Sony's prices were raised.

In the UK, iTunes prices rose like this:

The Ultimate Collection - rose 60% from $7.85 to $12.50
The Greatest Hits - rose 25% from $12.50 to $15.67

Shady, shady!!

We mean, we know fans needed their fix with Whitney hits like It's Not Right But It's Okay (watch above), but was it ethical to rise prices??

The debates spread like wildfire!! So Sony looked into it and guess what!!

…oops! It was all "a mistake" they say!! MmmHmm… inneresting..

A spokesperson commented:

Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the U.K. iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologize for any offense caused.

Oooh, Sony!! That is just so weird, isn't it!?! Talk about a coincidence… …

So what do U think?? Smart business or Shady business??

To all the people who jumped on the boring bandwagon of being a sheep and waiting for the artist to die before rushing out and buying their greatest hits then you deserve to be ripped off by noral less fuckwits like Sony. You can put your over priced downloads next to Amy Whinehouses and Jackos. you losers.

Yeah friggin' right it was an 'accident'. I hope Sony realizes how stupid they sound in saying that. They took advantage of Whitney's death just like the other celebrities who were 'grief-stricken', when they didn't give less of a damn about her once she fell from grace. I didn't buy any of her music, because I am not going to make Sony more money. It's really horrible the way she has been exploited after death and now they are going to stream her funeral online?! Let the woman rest!

Here in Australia..all of Whitney's albums were $9.95 before her death, checked today and they are now all $19.95….. talk about inflation after death….same thing happened to Michael Jackson and Amy Whinehouse Albums after their deaths.

Shady, like a local grocer who cuts items to 50% off when you know that the before price they're saying it was is double everyone else's.
If Whitney's kid got the money, I'd be a bit more forgiving, but how likely is she to see any of it?

what they did is smart business. Why shouldn't they profit from those sheep that didn't support Whitney's music before her death. You'd be stupid to miss the business opportunity!

Re: lj chillybean – The name for it is gouging, and it's not a long term healthy business practice. It will affect your bottom line down the road when people hear about it and buy something else instead in order to not support your business practices.
