Katy Perry Is Unstoppable!

| Filed under: Music MinuteWhitney HoustonKaty PerryAdeleLady GaGaNicki Minaj

Katy Perry Part Of Me Numbers

We're almost hesitant to say it, but Lady GaGa might have to move over a bit next week!

That's right, Katy Perry's Part Of Me is on track to do so well that it'll be the biggest debut since Lady Gaga's Born This Way!

That's incredible!

We're talking a projected 400,000 to 420,000 downloads by week's end on Sunday, Feb. 19 — which isn't far off from GaGa's 448,000!!

She can't be stopped!

What's funny is that both Katy and GaGa had similar releases… Katy premiered Part of Me on the Feb. 12 Grammy Awards ceremony, Gaga premiered Born This Way a year ago on the Feb. 13 Grammys — two days after the single hit digital retailers.

It comes down to Katy basically doing the numbers in seven days that GaGa did in three. That's still absolutely impressive!

That's all fab news for Katy, especially because next week's numbers are going to be big for a lot of competition. We're talking Adele after her wins, Whitney Houston, and Nicki Minaj's new song as well.

Congrats to everyone!

Seriously?! What the hell happened to real music? This computer-generated, over produced crap is horrible. It's bubble gum at its worst. At least there are artists like Adele, and the Foo Fighters who go into the studio and produce some real sounding tracks.

  2. 2

of course you had to add that little, but gaga did it faster jab. FYI Perez I'm not even a Katy Perry fan but Gaga hasn't really done shit lately. Like her album sold a lot of copies cause she sold it for a dollar

  3. 3

Good, hope she deflates that big nose ego of hers.

  4. 4

The nations musical IQ has been reduced to rubble.

    Re: dewdew5
He didn't add a jab at anything. This is the same story that was printed in Billboard, saying the same things nearly word for word.

  6. 6

And the funny thing is that these artists who are setting this ridiculous records really really think they're something special. It's all junior high talent show caliber, at best. It's embarrassing what music has come to.

Re: dewdew5 – - whats the problem? does it infuriate you that much that Lady Gaga is successful? aww, how pathetic. And it was Amazon who sold it for a dollar, putting themselves at a loss in the process as they bought the copies for full price so they could promote their Cloud service. People who don't like her aren't suddenly going to buy it are they? How do you know they weren't going to buy it anyway, but saw that it was being sold for a dollar for two days, and took advantage? Just get over your irrational hatred for someone you don't even know.

why people always gotta hate and compare….im not a lady gaga fan… but shit let it go already….

Agh. Numbers don't mean a whole lot to me when the music is mediocre to sucky. If I were a pop star/artist, my biggest goal would be to have a timeless song that people remember for generations.

"Part of me" is really nothing special and I was surprised when she sang it at the Grammys and released it as a single. The chorus is really boring and lacking. I do enjoy her music for what it's worth but I agree with ClipSlip - what happened to real music?

  10. 10

Only fat people and sad promless high school girls listen to pop music. owned

  11. 11

I could sell a cd for 99 cents

  12. 12

Her songs are catchy, but her voice is bad.

Re: electromouth – Enough with your ugly amazon facts. You need to get a real hobby and let this "music" thing go. You can have all the records in the world, not going to matter when most of America thinks you are GAWbage!

  14. 14

Re: ClipSlip – I just like well made music in general. It doesn't really matter much to me what "genre" the music is. I like Nirvana and Foo Fighters too. I like any music that "makes a connection" with me on some level. Katy Perry's music does that. I've listened to every track of Katy's music from her first two albums and I gotta say I'm impressed. Katy has REAL talent. I think she could be a huge star for as long as Madonna.

Not all of Katy's songs overuse electronic beats and so forth. I doubt Katy uses auto-tune very much either. Listen to Katy on YouTube with just her acoustic guitar and microphone. She's not a singer like Whitney Houston but she's still pretty darned good. She doesn't need auto-tune to hit certain notes. She's really not trying to sing perfectly anyway. Gwen Stefani from "No Doubt" doesn't try to sing perfectly either.

Katy is smart. She's using her unique style of singing and with some cool music in the background to "make a connection". That's THE important thing. She writes some impressive lyrics for her songs that people can relate to. Katy and the rest of the people she works with in the studio come up with some good beats, cool guitar and keyboard riffs that fit the music really well. Katy does good fast tempo songs as well as good slow songs.

I want to see them tribbing.

I've been a fan of all sorts of flavors of rock music as well as pop music. I like 70s hard rock, 80s rock, 90s grunge like Soundgarden and Nirvana, alternative rock, and some pop music. Sometimes I won't admit that I liked Madonna, the B52s, REM, Duran Duran, Garbage and other pop music groups but I did. I think there are a lot of other people out there just like me too who like all sorts of different music.

You guys should listen to all the tracks on Katy's albums and watch all her "VEVO official videos" on YouTube. Her videos make her songs even better. Not all of Katy's songs are bubble gum pop like "California Gurls". I think Katy Perry is officially a "cool musician" in my book and everyone else should get on the bandwagon. Her music is right up there with the very best pop and alternative rock artists of the last 30 years or so.

This all just my humble opinion though. Some people have different and more narrow tastes in music. That's fine. I like Katy Perry and I'll say so around friends that have an open mind and like a wide range of music like I do.

Katy just happens to be super freakin hot too … face and body. Katy is right up there with best looking women in music history … everyone from Blondie and the Wilson sisters in the 70s to Kylie Minogue, Gwen Stefani and Sheryl Crow more recently.

  17. 17

Considering Katy didn't build a CRAZY hype for her performance nor the song, i have to honestly say she wins here because Gaga build up an unbelievable hype last year only to fall flat on her face after the album dropped :/

  18. 18

Really the songs over 2 years old!

  19. 19

..shes almost as purdy as adam lambert ….

  20. 20

"Part of Me" is absolute crap!!!

  21. 21

WTF, KP is a flash in the pan, her music is catchy and you can dance to it, but live she sucks , and isn't a real performer , she's been real lucky . Lady Gaga is way more talented , and she will never put on a show like Madonna. It's good all the teeny bopers are buying her music. Enjoy it while it lasts

    Katy Perry:
    Corporate music's answer to brainwashing.
Hollywood's third best bet for turning young women into vapid, mindless, man-oriented sluts.
(First is Rihanna, followed by Gagme.)
And I'm sure y'all will comment: "Oh no! Katy is GREAT! She's AWESOME! She writes very inspiring songs!"
Yep. She draws people in with her "uplifting music." And then she blindly allows "those in charge" to exploit her other songs with videos full of mind-numbing bullshit designed to dumb down and YES, BRAINWASH!, young women everywhere.
She lets photoshoppers on magazines give her bigger tits and a smaller waist.
She's the unevolved skank who wore pleather and cleavage on Sesame Street.
She's the young twit who dressed like a space alien/animal bitch while she begged her “baby boy” to "inject her with his poison." (Remember that video, chock-full of symbolism and subliminal messages? The one in which she simply floats around in space until she finds “her boy”? The one in which she ends up AS AN ANIMAL?!)
She sings to tweens everywhere, "Let's go all the way tonight… no regrets."
    I say again:
Corporate music's answer to brainwashing. In another 20 years, when women are splayed naked all over the video screen, bending over backwards just to get a man's attention, we'll see it more plainly.
In the Middle East, they make them cover up.
In the West, we make them take it off.
How liberated (or "unstoppable!") ARE women these days, anyway?

    Re: adg100
    I whole-heartedly agree with you.
Pop music is in the toilet. Let's fucking flush it, already.

  25. 25

Re: adg100 – …well said….i wouldnt even call them artists or musicians…they are just entertainers and dancers…wut happened, is, the show became much more important that the music…..

Why are Gaga's fans so threatened by other female artists?
By the way Katy Perry is far more succesful than Gaga.
