The Artist only won best picture because the Academy members are old enough to remember when silent films were still popular.

well deserved! for jean too. It was my favorite out of the 5 best noms I was able to see. Something about that movie just put a huge smile on my face when it was over, and for days following. That's special.

So now we are OUTSOURCING our awards. We can't even give an American film a freaking Oscar? How giving. A freaking disgrace!!

  5. 5

Totally undeserved. I would even rather see Hugo win than this.

Re: boston61 – The Academy Awards are not only about American fIlm industry. its an international event. So calm down.

First they outsource our jobs now we can't even give Best Picture to an American product? The Republican 1% has destroyed this country. Anything for the 1% to get richer. Freaking rapists.

Re: boston61 – This has nothing to do with politics.. the Oscar is not just an American celebration of film, it acknowledges all types of films..A non American film can win its not a big deal. the point here that we care about is that The Artist is not really worthy of a Oscar type award comapred to great acting films such as MoneyBall, The Descedants etc. You are taking it way out of context.

RANGO won best animated picture….tragic….what a STUPID movie…why wasn't TINTIN nominated??? it would have won.

Thought For sure The Help was going to steal the show.

Big disappointment! Now I see why I don't watch the Oscars. S-T-U-P-I-D.

It was an amazing movie. It was also fresh and unique. There are way too many movies with sequels (MIB 3, really?), 3D Disney releases (Beauty & the Beast), lame plot lines, exaggerated violence, so far and so fourth. This is one of the movies, including Moneyball, that was based on true events/people. Considering that the crew was able to effectively show emotion without the use of talking, was incredible. It was also great to go back to how movies were made and shown. To appreciate movies today, you should appreciate the beginning stages of how they were made. If you didn't see the movie, I don't think you should critique it. I definitely wouldn't critique a movie that I didn't see.

Re: Mydoona – Tintin wasn't nominated for Best Animation because the academy believes that stop animation isn't animation.

Classic film is the way to go and I usually always go for the classics however I have been traveling so much this past year for work through Dish movies have been difficult. I have recently subscribed to Blockbuster@ Home to eliminate this problem giving me live streaming to my iPad yeah! I will be watching the Artist tonight in my hotel room thanks to innovation. My DIsh DVR connects to my internet and voila a classic for me.
