Meryl Streep Not Exactly Happy About Winning The Oscar

| Filed under: AwardzMeryl StreepOscarsViola Davis

As the winners at the Academy Awards were making their way into the Governors' Ball ET caught up with them for a few quick questions.

They grabbed Meryl Streep and asked how she felt about winning the award for Best Actress.

She said:

"Sadly… I had been reading the blogs in the awards run-up and I had a fairly full sense of how the momentum was going.

I felt that 'Oh, God, half of America is really mad now that I won."

We can understand feeling bad that to win the award you had to beat Viola Davis but you can't be a little happy for yourself??

There's always gonna be haters out there, you just gotta be happy for you, gurl!

the woman has ranged, she deserved it, all of the nominees were worthy imo.

Oh STFU. She said the same thing in her acceptance speech in a joking manner. Once again making something out of nothing. Good God. How pathetic you are.

  3. 3

STFU. Meryl is the QUEEN OF ACTING. IMO, She deserves every single award she has AND MORE. She should have about 17 Oscars on her mantle by now. Meryl is humble and amazing.

The movie sucked. Streep wore prosthetic's and got an Oscar? Maybe for her next roll Viola Davis can go in white face and have a shot at what should have been her's in the first place. The Oscars and the academy are aged and out of touch.

You read way too much into her statement. Of course she knew that most people wanted Viola to win, but it was clear in her speech that she was overjoyed. She's obviously very happy about it.

YOU WON CUZ YOU DESERVE IT!!! Queen's don't apologize to anyone, Mz. Streep. /bow.

  7. 7

sad cuz streep simply didn't deserve it…not really good acting, imitating wud be a better description…Davis Deserved To Win…DDTW…DDTW.

If you're gonna lose, it may as well be to Meryl Streep.

Hmm. I didn't hear this at all, and I'm always online. Congrats to her. She's very talented.

It's nice to win an award for your work but, at the end of the day, it's not about that. Viola Davis didn't walk away with a statue but, she gave the World one hell of a performance in The Help. That's her legacy. Not the Oscar.

  12. 12

Awww Meryl is just too nice, but the truth is, she gave THE BEST performance and is a living legend so, congrats Meryl, enjoy your well deserved win, you queen of Hollywood.

If people had wanted Viola Davis to win - really win - even in the face of being up against Meryl Streep (who has been up against 210 or so other actresses over the years for the same award), then we would have seen it happen. OR at the very least there would have been a tie. TIES have happened. Look at Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Steisand, for instance. So we don't even know the real odds or the real number of votes separating any of of the nominees. Its all just hype that anyone will be the winner. And there has been so much push for more African-American actors to become members of the AMPAS (being nominated and surely winner is the sure in), that its all politics in the heads of people anyway. Obviously voters thought that Streep was the best. Otherwise, like in 13 or so other contests she would have lost. There is no reason for so many people to think that Viola Davis "SHOULD HAVE WON" than an issue of race. They're all great actresses and performances so this HYPE to think someone SHOULD win is always something more about social politics at play. And that ain't judging the performance on screen, people.

She shouldn't give this a second thought. She won because she was the best in the voters minds. If another choice had won the haters would be saying it was because of political correctness. I'll be glad when votes are tabulated because of talent and not because of their color. Meryl shouldn't have to feel strange about this, if she does. She won,end of story.

Here is the kicker both women worked together in the movie Doubt. They know each other. But, if you lose it's best it's against Streep. Congrats to both for great roles they
    both played.

  16. 16

Meryl deserved the award. She should just stop reading the blogs. There will always be haters no matter what.
