Meryl Streep Thanked Her Hubby, Her Makeup Artist But NOT Margaret Thatcher!

| Filed under: AnglophiliaFilm FlickersMeryl StreepOscars

Uh oh!

Meryl Streep is taking some heat from the actual Iron Lady's closest companions.

The actress won her third Oscar (with fourteen OTHER nominations!) Sunday and she thanked her husband and makeup artist (for an award she felt guilty of winning).

But not Margaret Thatcher.

Lord Norman Tebbit, a political ally to Thatcher, stated that he wasn't surprised that Meryl forgot to honor the former prime minister.

Tebbit stated that "the film was about Meryl Streep, not Lady Thatcher" and if Thatcher acted like her movie's portrayal, she wouldn't have lasted very long in office.

To be exact, the Lord said Thatcher wouldn't have lasted six months!

This compounds The Iron Lady's earlier criticism for focusing on Lady Thatcher's dementia, not her politics.

Do U think Meryl's speech was a slight or just right?

Oh please. Stupid. Drama queen making shit out of nothing.

  2. 2

If reports are true, she hasn't even seen the film, nor did she meet with Streep. There is no need to thank her for anything. Another stuck-up Brit….

  3. 3

Margret Who? IT"S MARYL STREEP! Queens don't give out "thank you's"

  4. 4

Oh, and Lady Thatcher was there for the whole filming? In my opinion, if you win an Oscar, you can thank whoever you want. She was gracious, and sweet to her closest confidants. Sorry, but everyone else can suck it.

Please…Even MS said it was a vision of how the writers thought "Mags" would be based on rumors and a few convos. Some things the director and Streep came up w/ themselves. Mags was always an afterthought. Meryl knows she won the Oscar because she is that good! Julia Child certainly hated being blogged about and they went and made a movie about her and the blogger!

Thank her for what? You are such a dumbass.

  7. 7

yeah and when Spielberg won for Schindler's List, he didn't thank Hitler.

  8. 8

This is just ridiculous! Who cares she didn't thank Thatcher! She's just playing a character. I thought it was much more meaningful to only thank a few people rather then these actors who ramble out a million names..

Wow…I can not believe how stupid and misinformed people here are.

I dont care if she thanked her or not, even though its customary to thank a living person whom a movie is made after. But I could care less…what would anyone expect from Hollywood?

Did one person say that Thatcher was on set? Another called her the Queen of England? Another said she hadnt even seen the film.

Let me clue you in, you dumbshits:

Margaret Thatcher has advanced alzheimer's disease. She hasnt been out of her house in years. She doesnt know who she is, much less remember how to eat and sometimes to breathe unless she is watched at all hours. It is a terrible disease.

So no, she isnt the Queen of Englad (really stupid moron) and no she hasnt seen the movie and no she wasnt a consultant. She is an 87 year old woman who is in the violent throws of the end of her life.

    Have some respect.

thank you SLITE….i agree with you. love me some Meryl. BUt the character was based on Marge Thatch. Thatcher currently is not well, however SHEcreated the chracter. It is pretty standard for thesse actors, from what I've seen, to thank the souls they have portrayed — alive or dead. Hell, it's their namsake, they created the 'charachter.' i can see how most actors who became that role (of some famous/political/powerful) person.. agree on her politics or not, i can see how it's offensive for Meryl not to at least thank the inspiration for the movie, good or bad. Still, love ya Meryl!!!

Thatcher is a delusional conservative and she had nothing to do with the film's success. Whoever Tibbit is he can STFU.

  12. 12

    What a horrible, old b!tch.

  13. 13

Meryl can do no wrong. She is our greatest living actress.
P, when you win an oscar and make your speech THEN you can critisize others' speeches.

Slight or Just Right? REAlly? You have to ask that Pendejo Hilton?
its an obvious slight……..its called being shady……….something you know all too well on being. Streep is over rated. and so are you Pendejo Hilton.

  16. 16

Slight or Just right? YOu really have to ask? Meryl Streep is over rated just as you and your site are. Dumb Queens like yourself just love crap………literally. What a Pendejo you are…….ugh!

  17. 17

I'm sure that having Oscar winner Streep portraying her in a film about her more than suffices as acknowledgment. I doubt that Thatcher feels overlooked. Not too many people have Academy Award winning performances in films titled after them.

  18. 18

I'm so over all this "You've insulted this person or this group of people because you said or didn't say this or that!" It's tired! And taking personal offense about EVERYTHING just kind of shows how confortable we've become! We need to create our own problems to fill the void! Let's grow up!

  19. 19

OMG this is sooo ridiculous. Meryl gave the best speech ever and she soo deserved to win..after 29 looong years!!!!!!!!!!
