hmm a little confused am I supposed to cry because it was stupid. . .

Right off the bat it is different than the book. Katniss DOES NOT give the pin to Prim, Katniss' classmate gives HER the pin. Heavy sigh.

Re: Mandakay – Madge isn't an important enough character to translate to screen. Movie watchers don't like as many extra people and things when it can easily be condensed. Having Katniss give the pin to Prim is the easiest way to convey the importance of it in the movie.

Re: raychellex – Good point. But did you see the shot of Katniss sitting dejected in the rain? And Peeta throwing bread to pigs? Both seemingly the same age as when the reaping happens. That's just dumb, it's not hard to have a memory flashback with kid versions.

Re: raychellex – I feel like Madge is important in that her father represents the capitol in District 12, and the fact that his daughter is the one who gives Katniss the pin seems essential in the symbolism of the movie. Katniss only has 2 friends, Gale and Madge. It seems silly to write her out.
