Logo Saying GOODBYE To Gay-Themed Programming

logo network programming

Looks like the Logo network is ready to mix things up.

LGBT-themed television station Logo has announced that they'll be expanding their programming line-up to feature "mainstream culture," and that they'll be abandoning their "gay-only TV lineup."

Here's what the network's Executive Vice President Lisa Sherman had to say about it:

"Culturally, we’re past the tipping point. For gays and lesbians, it's part of who they are, but they don't lead with it, because many are leading fully integrated, mainstream lives."

"Our goal at Logo has always been to honestly reflect our viewers' lives. We're now reinforcing our commitment to them with programming that truly mirrors how many of them are living and want to be entertained today."

The network's new lineup will include shows such similar to America's Next Top Model, Laguna Beach, and Storage Hunters.

As for all the RuPaul fans out there - Don't Panic! They WILL be keeping RuPaul's Drag U on the air! Fewf!

What do U think? Do U approve of the changes that Logo is making???

This title is so ridiculously misleading. You're…a mess.

I'm gay and I think these changes are very good. I don't really care to watch a network full of gay only shows…it makes us as gay people feel like we're separated from the rest of society. The fact that I am gay only means that I have someone as the same gender as a sexual partner, it doesn't mean that all of my hobbies and interests are completely different than other people who are straight. I am glad logo is integrating shows that the both gay and straight people can enjoy together. All of us are a lot more alike than we are different, just because we are gay and straight just means we have a slight difference in sexual orientation.

"And to solidify the transformation, they're re-naming the channel 'Bravo2'."

  4. 4

In other words: "the all-gay programming line up wasn't making us enough money." The spiel about gay integration into the mainstream is a convenient coverup.

    needs more Buffy again…

Re: Acem79 – Your right, it wasn't making enough money. I don't know of a lot of gay people, including myself, who want to watching totally 100% gay shows all the time that make us feel segregated from the rest of society. They are making the right changes.

i watch logo for lgbt movies/shows and i'm pissed that they're changing the programming. If i wanted to watch MTV i would have watched MTV. Leave that Laguna shit and teen mom where it was.

It's a sign of the times. Gays and straights are beginning ti Assimalate.

I would never choose a gay themed channel any more than an xxx channel, a cooking channel, a jewelry channel or a diet channel.
If the marketers care, great products and great talent sells. Period.

I hope that by adding more 'mainstream shows' they get enough money to fund new content. RuPaul's Drag Race proves that Logo can create a hit show and I hope they put out new stuff.

Re: Acem79 – Thats EXACTLY what I was about to write.
If Gay-only made big money they wouldnt change a thing

  12. 12

tHAt is f***** up. We finally get a good channel and they mess it up

  13. 13

I don't like it. I mean they started the channel to cater to certain community and for them to change it will alienate the viewers they already have. What they need to do is have better shows and not fill it up with reruns of Buffy or some leftover MTV rerun rap. I mean the channel is all reruns except one or 2 shows and even then they rerun it a thousand times and never have any new shows

  14. 14

They are obviously homophobic for not airing everything gay. I hope GLAAD has something to say about this. Where are they, why aren't they saying anything? They are probably too busy getting their panties in a knot over something Kirk Cameron said.

  15. 15

They Better Keep The A List New York and 1 Girl 5 Gays.

  16. 16

Do what you will but none of the reality shows are anything I will watch….

  17. 17

The Gay shows just did not cut it,which is surprising when you consider the amount of talant in the Gay community, and the amount of Gay $$$$ out there to lure in advertisers
Anderson Cooper should have been there, some quality movies done, instead of every ptogram being silly ass sissies bitching and drooling

  18. 18

It's alright, as long they don't lose the wonderful shows of Gays and Lesbians. However, I wonder…do they ever show some Deaf GLBT show? I am so curious about that…

  19. 19

Re: AngelusSvet – Oh, also….I may be new, but don't they try to find someone or anybody who's willing to create more shows? I mean, there's more or few people wanted to be part of LOGO tv show…I mean, I don't mind be part of it. I mean, to me personally, it's like people are afraid to have LOGO channel…I mean, look at BET, ABC Family, and some other channels have their own tv shows. I wish we have Deaf Channel. We are lucky to have LOGO, why bother it? Just leave the way it is…

  20. 20

They can gay-ify all the popular shows.. eg The next top gay model, American gay idol, let's dance for gay couples, desperate gay housewives and so on..

  21. 21

Why no mention of A-List franchise, 1 girl 5 gays in this article? oh but they do mention Laguna Beach. wtf! better to mention the hills than laguna beach, so old so amazon.com. this channel was good the way it was but if they wanna change it then do it right and not have it come out with stuff Bravo, E! & Vh1 are doing.

  22. 22

I read the article this perez link came from and while studies show " 53 percent of gay people live openly but without a priority to showcase their sexual orientation. Only 30 percent of those surveyed say they preferred living and socializing in an exclusively LGBT community." Well Haven't we always thought of Logo as the 30% and Bravo as like 53%?. Weho, SF, Palm Springs & Hilcrest are some of their primary demos. Don't stray away too far from what you really are Logo.

Re: anewlow – if it makes us gay people feel separated? then why not take away B.E.T from Blacks , telemundo and univison from the Latinos, Fox News from the republicans, Spike t.v. from the men etc.they shouldnt take away the gay content where else on t.v or in society will i see gay life..is modern family suppose to do the trick for me?
