Brave Man Files The Lawsuit You've Been Waiting For

The fight between the common American and f**king RIDICULOUS movie theatre snack prices has officially begun!

The right to eat cheap, unhealthy food is a right us Americans celebrate pretty much constantly…. unless they're in a movie theatre.

We've all said that trapping people in a cold dark room for two hours without remotely affordable food or beverages should be illegal, and Michigan's Joshua Thompson agrees!

He has bravely filed a class-action lawsuit against his local AMC theater, and their shitty snack prices.

Joshua says charging a zillion bucks for a pack of raisinets, while not allowing patrons to bring in their own snacks, is a violation of Michigan's Consumer Protection Act. Like us, he demands there the be a law that prohibits movie theaters from:

"charging the consumer a price that is grossly in excess of the price at which similar property or services are sold."

Speaking with absolutely zero legal background on this case — we say he's DEFF gonna win this thing!! Howeves, legal experts say he doesn't have much of a case.

Still, we're not giving up the dream. If this law is passed, a statue of Josh should go up in ever town center in the country!!

If you don't like the prices, don't go to the movie theaters. Lawsuit solved. That is your choice. Wait for the movie to come out on DVD, rent it, go to the store and buy whatever snacks you desire and bam, your done. OR go the the movies and not eat anything. Eat before you go so your not hungry. What is with all of the ridiculous lawsuits that are going on. Sheesh.

Just take stop at the drug store or 7-11 and bring your own food in. Dont be a douche bag.

  3. 3

I either watch movies at home and eat whatever I want, or I bring my own food and drink to the movies. I will not be scammed!!!

  4. 4

The theatre near me charges 5 dollars for bottled water, water people. That's highway robbery.

this suit will not fly. completely rediculous premise. probably will be tossed before it ever gets to trial. how fucking stupid is this guy. If you don't like the prices,,DON'T FUCKING BUY IT!!! I don't buy BMW's because they are too expensive. Can I sue the car manufacturer??

  6. 6

What is BRAVE about this,,,you idiot. all it takes is a $250.00 filing fee, just takes a little money,,, NO BALLS

Re: Laroccakiddd – THEN DON'T BUY IT YOU TOOL. it's not robbery, if you make the decission to give them the money. furthermore you are more than a little stupid paying for fucking WATER. i'll bet you $1000. that they have a water fountain that you can drink from for FREE.

Go Josh!! I have to have my children smuggle in their candy and drinks. We always eat dinner before we go, and stop at the gas station for drinks and candy. The prices at the movies are fucking ridiculous!

  9. 9

If you can't afford it then you can't afford it. Sneak in your food like everyone else.

  10. 10

It's two hours! Eat before you go in and sneak in your own drink if you can't go two hours without eating or drinking something.

Honestly, I don't think the prices would be half as insulting if you were allowed to bring your own snacks. EVEN THE AIRPORTS allow you to bring in food as long as you abide by their guidelines. I'm not a parent, but I feel bad for those who are when they have to buy snacks for their children at the theatre.

I don't tend to go to the movies anymore because I find the entire process too expensive, but people need to quit hating on the people who still go. It's not an out-of-this-world request to want to go to a movie and have some popcorn without breaking the bank. Realizing that having to sneak food into the theatre is ridiculous, and wanting to do something about it does not make someone a douchebag. Infact, I think taking action which could benefit everyone is pretty brave. Even if he doesn't win, it still puts pressure on the theaters to change their prices because it shines a light on something that has been ignored until now.

I work in a small movie theater in Canada, and although I agree that the prices are very high, there is a REASON why they're so high. When tickets are sold, about 80-90% (sometimes more or less, depends on the studio and movie) of the money goes to the filmmakers. Movie theaters make very little profit off the tickets. The only way they can make profit is from the concession stores, so they don't have a choice to sell stuff to a much higher price.
And who cares about prices anyway. As someone else said, if you think it's too expensive, just don't fucking buy it, period. It's not stealing if you agree to give your money, stupids.

  13. 13

So stupid. I work at a movie theater. Common knowledge that theaters don't make a lot of money with ticket sales and have to get their money with their concession products. We offer water in a small cup for free and there are also 2 drinking fountains. You don't HAVE to buy Goobers, its ridiculous, if you want damn Goobers so bad go to your dollar store and sneak them in. What an idiot. Movie theaters generate about $25,000 in electricity each month! $1-$2 from each ticket sold and paying employees etc isn't going to cover even that. Understand the business first! You are so going to lose. As long as we provide you with free water then its all good! Don't go to the movies if you don't like it! No one is forcing you! You know what you're gettinng into. Wait a few months and go to redbox and pay $1. Simple!

start up another lawsuit.. this time against football/basketball/sports stadiums( even amusement parks!) that over charge you for their beer/water/snacks.. Or better yet.. for EVERY bar EVERYwhere… charging you $3-$10 per SHOT or $7+ for a mix drink.. when a whole bottle is $18

Re: Lemonbear – Good point….!! The sports arenas are outrageous. How can a working man afford to bring his kids to a baseball game anymore. It's ridiculous.

Re: netgear – lmaoo soo true!!!

  17. 17

Re: anniebanannie51248 – That kind of attitude is what caused this country to go corrupt and overcharge because of ppl like yourself. How the hell can you justify charging 10 bucks for a bag of popcorn when you can go to the store and get it for a fraction of the price?! There is no reason for the overkill on the prices. It's one thing that we pay 15 bucks to see a movie, but to not be able to bring in snacks from elsewhere is straight up wrong. That's like saying you can't allow your child to take lunch to school because the the school has a cafeteria that serves food.

from my understanding, this guy wants either lower prices or to be able to bring in his own snacks WITHOUT having to sneak them in. which makes sense to me. it's all well and good that the theaters make money from concession stands but do they have to make it against the rules to bring in your own food?

it's not like an amusement park or sports event or anything like that. it's a frigging movie. i understand the thought of if you can't afford it or don't want to pay up then don't go but i really feel it's not asking a lot to be like hey, i wanna go watch this movie with a friend but would rather bring in my own snacks without having to feel like a criminal for sneaking it in because i don't want to pay the insane concession prices that rape me in the asshole. just sayin

They're just screwing themselves with the high snack prices, because most simply bringtheir own pocket food. Make snacks reasonable, and double your concession take.

If movie theaters lowered their prices on snacks, they'd sell more and people wouldn't feel the urge to smuggle in snacks. Exorbitant prices cause people to bring their own snacks, causing the theater to actually lose money. Derrrrrr….

  21. 21

I wish that most theaters would bring back the small popcorn, most of them (at least in California) what they call small is what used to be called medium, and as an older person I just cannot eat that much - but want my movie popcorn!
