Tyler Clementi Case: Prosecution Calls BS On Dharun Ravi's Cover Up Tweets

dharun ravi tyler clementi case

This is just sickening.

By now we're sure you're all aware of the Tyler Clementi case. Dharun Ravi spied on Tyler, his college roomie, via webcam and invited Twitter followers to watch Tyler and male friends gettin' it on. Upon finding out, Tyler jumped off a bridge.

Well it was recently brought to light that right after Ravi tweeted the times to check in on his webcam feed, he immediately tweeted right after an "oops" message.

They went like this:

September 22, 2010:

1. Roommate asked for room again. It's happening again. People with ichat, don't you dare videochat me from 9 to 12

2. Everyone ignore the last tweet. Stupid drafts.

Of course the prosecution (and anyone with a brain) can clearly see the second tweet was merely a poorly played smokescreen.

And we hope the jury does too!!

Tyler deserves justice! Gay, straight, we don't care. What happened here was wrong, incredibly wrong, and we will be absolutely OUTRAGED if nothing comes from this terrible act of disrespect.

If UR contemplating suicide, believe us when we say it DOES get better. Call 1-800-273-8255 to vent. They are incredible. Ull instantly feel better.

send this piece of crap from where he came from….

This is incredibly stupid. Why is this guy even on trial ? just because he videotaped someone ? He shouldn' be charged with murder or manslaughter.. or whwatever they come up with. The person who died decided to take his own life. They should charge him instead! And then have the family pay for the cost of finding his body. It will be an outrage, and a good example of why this country is going downhill if this man gets charged for anything.

This guy is a skumbag. His friends are a skumbags. This is invasion of privacy there wasn't a law in place for this. His parents should be able to sue him civilly. I hope his gross girlfriends are ostracized. The prosecution overcharged this.

This guy must be gay himself. Why else would you sit there and watch two guys get it on?

Re: kirknyc24 – You're referring to Tyler right ? Because he is where he belongs.. He was a piece of shit, and no loss.

Re: dryan1971 – Are you fucking kidding me? Are you well? Did you take your mods today? This piece of shit filmed someone, without their knowledge, having sex!! I don't care if he was gay or straight, that's a crime you goddamn moron. You know what's wrong with this country?? Uneducated pieces of trash like you. Go pick up a fucking government book you homophobic asshole.

He was just outing his roommate, the same thing you use to do Mario.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. While this kid was a big jerk, when he deleted those tweets he only thought he was saving himself from getting in trouble with the school officials — not the police. If you read the "New Yorker" article, you would also see that Tyler was actually not angry or depressed, just really annoyed and irritated by his behavior. In fact, he worried that he might get an even worse roommate. Tyler had major problems with his mom's rejection over the fact that he was gay. His family is part of an evangelical church that until a few years ago was anti-gay. Many people have not bothered to really read the facts in this case. People don't commit suicide over immature jerks (Tyler laughed about him getting a "peep" at him kissing his date), but over deeper issues.

on trial for a hilarious prank?

Enough Perez. If you're going to post about this case, at least post ALL the facts.
You forgot to mention that Tyler's "lover", the person that Ravi meant to film, was a 30 year old that Tyler met online. A 30 year old that Tyler first met in person the night that they were initially filmed. A 30 year old that looked scruffy and untrustworthy. Ravi initially set up the cameras to make sure that none of his belongings were stolen, and happened to catch the two kissing. Once he saw that, he closed his laptop and stopped watching. Additionally, after the incident, Tyler was laughing at how Ravi filmed him. Even further, when the Resident Assistant offered Tyler his room to stay in to have a place away from Ravi, Tyler refused. While Ravi's action were immature, they were not done with malicious intent. If Tyler hadn't committed suicide, Ravi would not be receiving such negative backlash.

Re: gypsy1020 – I had to correct you. Ravi didn't film Tyler and his 30 year old partner who he met for the first time that night having sex. He was recording the room (claiming he wanted to be sure his belongings were not stolen), and when he saw them kissing he immediately stopped watching. The next time he went to film, Tyler found out and disabled the webcam. Therefore, Ravi never watched the two having sex.

Re: dryan1971 – He isn't being charged with murder or manslaughter. He is being charged with invasion of privacy, and many other charges related to that. He is indeed guilty of those charges. Bottom line: NO ONE should be able to spy on you with a video camera and get away with it. This case isn't about blaming him for Tyler's death, it's about the right to privacy. And God help this country if it suddenly becomes okay to spy in people when they think they are alone, in a private setting. I shudder to think what may happen then. Will we suddenly have cameras everywhere, spying on us all, with no one being held accountable? The facts of this case are that Tyler thought he was alone, in private, and in fact he wasn't. I hope this Ravi character gets convicted, and swiftly deported.

Re: actinglikeseals – By the way, I have been watching this trial from the beginning. The guest did NOT look scruffy and untrustworthy, and this was later confirmed by other witnesses. This was an excuse to videotape his roommate, and basically be immature and tweet to the world that "it's happening again, my roommate is kissing a dude, yay." This kid was being a jerk, invading Tyler's (and his guest) privacy and making fun of him. If this was someone that YOU cared about, you would be more compassionate.
