McPhee Marilyn

Poor dogs must be confused, because Katharine McPhee looks EXACTLY like Marilyn Monroe here!

Wow!

Check out the first image (above) of Katharine as Marilyn for the show Smash! Doesn't she look fab??

The singer-turned-actress was snapped walking her pooches on set, looking like a spitting image.

What does that even mean, 'spitting image?'

Who knows??

Cute dogs, cute look!

Do U guys think she pulls it off??

She is an attractive girl, but not everyone can pull this look off. This made her less attractive.

Ummm…What the hell do you think Marilyn Monroe looks like?? Katharine is far too tall and skinny.

Spittin' image is the colloquial pronounciation of "spirit and image", meaning a very close resemblance to someone, usually a relative.

Down here in the South, I thought "spittin' image" meant that you look so much like someone that they could have spit you out.

Have you ever seen a picture of Marilyn Monroe???

  9. 9

Just because you have platinum blonde hair does not make you look like Marilyn Monroe.

Re: Everything popular is wrong. – It isn't the first time she has tried it. I wonder how long she has been auditioning for the show. I see the comments are off for almost everything.

    "spit and image?

  13. 13

the idiom is "spit and image" - bearing an extremely close resemblance in every way

    From thestraightdope.com:
The term "spittin' image" is a shortening of the original "spit and image," which means that you are both the stuff that your parents are made of (the spit) and you look like them, too (the image). There are many folk etymologies (fanciful stories made up to explain the usage), but this is the only one that has any basis in fact. Webster's says that one of the older uses dispenses with the image, as in "You are the very spit of your father," i.e., he might just have spit you out.
Some of the folk etymologies have the spit (expectoration) and image (a doll) used in a black magic ceremony to clone you; others cite "spat" (the offspring of shellfish) as part of the origin. According to word sleuths William and Mary Morris, some linguistic experts think "spit" is derived from "spirit," noting that the southern pronunciation of the letter r is sometimes indistinct. In other words, the original would have been, "She's the very spirit and image of her mother." Other authorities favor the phrase "spitting image" means a "speaking likeness" and reference a 1602 source in support of this.
