Tyler Clementi's Roommate Found GUILTY Of Hate Crime!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal MattersR.I.P.Sad Sad

Dharun Ravi Guilty

Finally, some closure in the Tyler Clementi case.

The jury for the hate crime trial, which began on February 21, convicted roommate Dharun Ravi GUILTY of invasion of privacy AND on the most serious charge, bias intimidation.

Dharun's attorneys agreed that he acted in an immature manner, but stood by their client, stating:

"He hasn't lived long enough to have any experience with homosexuality or gays. He doesn't know anything about it. He just graduated high school."

That is ABSOLUTELY no excuse!!!!

As we hope you haven't forgotten, Ravi, Clementi's roommate at Rutgers University at the time, used a webcam to spy on Tyler while being intimate with another man.

After finding out he'd been filmed, the gay teen TRAGICALLY jumped off the George Washington bridge to his death in September 2010.

We hope this guilty verdict brings as much peace and closure to the Clementi family as it can.

If you are being bullied, PLEASE remember that it DOES get better!!!!

LOVE is LOUDER!

Such a shame, if anything he should have paid a $10 fine, that's all!!
But because the other guy was a gay he”s being treated like a murderer,
You gays say equal rights! But not equal punishment!!!!

  2. 2

    Good, fuck him!
I was bullied all my young life for being gay and it sticks with you your whole life, you never get over it.
    Glad to see justice here

  3. 3

Go back to India. We dont want you here.
Poor tylers family has to go to a cemetary because of you.

    Re: HAWTSTUFF

    Suck my cock.

  5. 5

He should be deported, but I have a feeling since he is brown, Eric Holder will give him a pass

  6. 6

They should film all the sex he is going to be getting jail and stream it live so he knows exactly how Tyler felt. DOUCHEBAG!

  7. 7

Re: HAWTSTUFF – Shame on you…you really have no sense of what it is like to be discriminated or marginalized or hated upon, do you?

  8. 8

    Re: Babycakes!!! – Awesome~! I love that

  9. 9

Re: Sexsai – Wow, what an ignorant thing to say. No who's the ignorant bully.

  10. 10

i think he should have been just sued …he didn't physically lay a hand on the guy. not saying that the wasn't in the wrong, but jessh, he just made a stuipid kid move….most EVERYBODY in life is bullied or imbarrased one way or another…..we just have to deal with it.

  11. 11

"Dharun Ravi, a former Rutgers University student accused of spying on and intimidating his gay roommate, was found guilty Friday on charges of invasion of privacy, but jurors found him not guilty on several charges of bias intimidation. "

Get your facts staight stupid…he'll get a freakin slap on the wrist.

  12. 12

Re: HAWTSTUFF – Do you know what a hate crime is, you stupid idiot??? His actions cause a young man to commit suicide. That is MURDER. The boy was fine until Ravi decided he needed a few laughs at someone elses expense.

  13. 13

I will be happy if after he serves his 10 years in prison (in one of the most toughest of prisons where he gets up close and personal with a man named BUBBA!) he is deported back to India and not permitted to ever return to North America!! What he did is vile and disgusting. You don't film your roommate having sex, and you most definitely do not broadcast it on the web! Lucky I am not the Judge, would make sure you serve the absolute maximum for each and every guilty verdit. No chance of parole EVER!

Interesting how apparently it is ok to be racist still, but not homophobic. If you want change, maybe just consider this guy as a person, rather than an Indian person. Isn't that how homosexual individuals wish to be seen? Equals? Or is it only for gays as a minority to want this. His ethnic origin is completely irrelevant to the case.

  15. 15

Tyler ovveracted. When something horrific happens to us- it is NOT ACCEPTABLE to kill ourselves by throwing ourselves off a bridge. Tyler obviously had some sort of mental problem. What Dhrahan did was a very wrong and nasty thing to do but it is not a reasonable assumption that such actions would cause somebody to kill themself.

    Yall are idiots

  16. 16

This is TOTAL BULL! I'm not saying what he did was right but for him to be responsible for some headcase's suicide? Really? So if a manager files someone from their job and they go out and blow their brains out they should be locked up too?

  17. 17

i'm pretty sure they said he was not guilty of bias intimidation, and was only found guilty of invasion of privacy…

    CC

  18. 18

well, i was reading conflicting reports. i stand corrected. apparently he was found guilty of one of the two charges of bias intimidation against him..

    CC

  19. 19

He didn't know anything about homosexuality or gays? Has he been living under a rock? Now he knows about homosexuality, gays, suicide, and jail. This guy needs to be put away for a long time.

  20. Jaded says – reply to this

    20

So the guy hasn't lived long enough to have any experience with homosexuality, but he knew enough about it to know to film it, and then to post it in a place where people could see.

I'm all for him getting whatever comes to him whether that be jail time, or to forever have to register as a sex offender, or a huge fine, although I'd prefer the first two. I question though is I wonder if it would be the same verdict if he had set up a camera and taped a female having sex and put it up everywhere and she then killed herself.

  21. 21

rot in jail douche! karma is a bitch

  22. 22

    Here are the facts:
The jury found that he did not intend to intimidate Mr. Clementi the first night he turned on the webcam to watch. But the jury concluded that Mr. Clementi had reason to believe he had been targeted because he was gay, and in one charge, the jury found that Mr. Ravi had known Mr. Clementi would feel intimidated by his actions.

This is just sad in all way. Clementi should never have been spied on or made to feel badly for his homosexuality but I just don't believe someone can be blamed for one's suicide.

I keep wondering if society itself isn't to blame when a suicide occurs. Life just has to mean more. And all life is precious but in our society, life doesn't seem to count for very much.

  23. 23

Re: Alliestp – What are you talking about? He was found guilty on all 15 charges. Get your facts straight.

  24. 24

Re: AllyJ – I agree that there seems to be a great deal of racism being voiced here. I wonder if their anger is pointed at Ravi because he is from India or using the fact he is Indian to take a cheap shot at him since they don't know how to diffuse their anger and frustration over this situation?

  25. 25

"He hasn't lived long enough to have any experience with homosexuality or gays. He doesn't know anything about it. He just graduated high school." What???!!! I don't think you need to know about homosexuality to know what he did was wrong! The lawyer should have said he doesn't have any experience with human decency, compassion or humility! It is my opinion that anyone who is old/smart enough to be attending Rutgers should know better than to record someone's intimate time with their lover and then put it up on the web - regardless of the sexuality of the partners involved!

  26. 26

i don't care if the person is gay or not, anyone who wants to spy on his roomie like that is a CREEPER. he deserves to be punished

  27. 27

Re: AllyJ – If he was from Ireland I would say Go Back To Ireland.
If he was Italian I would say Go Back To Italy.
If he were Canadian I would say "Go Back To Canada.

Its not his ethnicity, its his actions.
Dont call racism where there is none.

  28. 28

Re: MR Pete – stupid statement from a racist…funny that youre posting on a site hosted by a gay man…What I would love to hear from this young man is an appology..an acknowledgement of just HOW wrong he was for doing what he did…I won't hold my breath.

  29. 29

Further more, we should be greatful that our government would prosecute this guy…Harvey Milks killer got away with it…

  30. 30

Videoing anyone without his or her permission should be a crime, especially if you put it online or send it to others, and especially if it is a very private act. The fact that this person used it for bullying just makes the whole thing worse. He should go to prison for a long, long time.

  31. 31

Re: Sexsai – Where are u from originally? You say send them back to where they came from, white people aren't originally from North America, u do realise this don't u? But wait ur family has been there a few generations now, so ur exempt from the whole 'send him back to his own country' thing rite? It's pathetic how some people spew racist shit then try to pretend it has nothing to do with race n it's just a p.o.v. … Bullshit. When a white person commits a crime people look at the facts, when a so-called foreigner commits a crime all people seem to see is colour.

  32. 32

Re: MR Pete – I read earlier that he will be deported after his 5-10 year prison stay! awesome

  33. AllyJ says – reply to this

    33

Sexsai, you have proven my point precisely with your ignorant reply.

  34. 34

Apparently these days if a white straight guy was to punch a black guy for being a douche bag, banging his girl, etc he could instantly cry "hate crime" in hopes of getting a stronger more harsh penalty. Minorities are trying to have their own laws with harsher punishments. Separating them. I thought gays wanted to be "equal eh? This is doing more harm than good. If someone punches you it should be assault and battery of a PERSON. Not it turn into a hate crime for im assuming a harsher punishment. Since people treat a simply assault and battery as a hate crime if its done to a minority. Basically, if you punch a gay guy or a black dude they can cry hate crime.

Douche bags deserve to get punched. Take Perez for instance. He's gay..but hes also an annoying tool. Theres a million and one reasons why someone would like to punch that guy in the face, being gay is not on that list. But he could turn around and cry he punched me because im gay. Give me a break. At this point you can't even disagree with a black guy without being considered a racist. Or disagree with a member of the LGBT community without being labeled a homophobe and bigot.

The way things are going white straight males are getting boned everyday now.

  35. 35

This poor kid is getting the book thrown at him to be made an example of..But this is also as one user said "political correctness running amuck" which is true. The political correct twats need to stop. There is a such thing as too much political correctness. We're rasing children to be spoon fed pansies. To expect that their feelings will never get hurt, etc. Fact of the matter is..The guy committed suicide because he was too embarrassed being gay. BOO HOO. No one told him to kill himself. His reasoning for committing suicide was pathetic.

  36. 36

We have all had something bad to us. Some of us have lost bfs/gfs/parents/family pet. Some of us have lost our home all in which are A THOUSAND TIMES WORSE than people finding out you're gay. His actions were wrong. But that gave him no excuse to kill himself. When I got caught whacking off by my mom I didn't decide to kill myself from the embarrassment. This was just a weak minded that (imagine that a gay thats weak minded LOL) that was embarrassed and killed himself. I feel bad for Deharun

  37. 37

Re: AllyJ – Saying my reply is ignorant with no argument of your own does not make me ignorant.
Back your shit up if you want to be taken seriously

  38. 38

Re: perezfknsux – If he's born in India and comes here with Indian values, and fucks a gay kids life up because of it, then hell yeah go back to India.

    Welcome to the real world

  39. 39

Re: NotSoGay – you should really read the news or something bc you clearly don't know what you're talking about, and that goes for several of you. tyler's suicide did NOT play a role in the jury's deliberation. the only thing on trial was Ravi's actions online. the jury was asked to keep tyler's suicide out of it. obviously impossible to pretend like it's not a huge part, but still the only thing on trial was ravi's actions not tylers. ignorance is not bliss friends.
