We’ve recently been teasing you with Mad Men tid-bits in anticipation for this weekend’s season five premier, and here is one more slice of period-drama pie to tide you over till Sunday!!
A substantial group showed up to rep the show on Today with Matt Lauer, including ill-fated couple Jon Hamm & January Jones, show creator Matt Weiner, John Slattery, Vincent Kartheiser, Jared Harris, and Kiernan Shipka.
The cast talk future plans, dish some juicy gossip, and even address the Kardashian comment that had Kimmy K in quite the tizzy. Jon Hamm says of the incident:
"It's a part of our culture that I certainly don't identify with and I don't really understand the appeal of it other than that car-crash sensibility, It's not something that I partake in or enjoy, but it is what it is and here we are."
Vincent Kartheiser adds:
"I agree with everything he said. I mean, I think our society enjoys to turn on the television and seeing someone who is awful; they can say, 'At least I'm not as terrible as that person.'
Matt Weiner also sheds some light on how the show writes its characters. No character, like no human being, is black and white:
"It's also not judgmental…There's something about it that embraces on some level that we are flawed people…. People behave badly; it's why the 10 commandments are there."
YES. We completely agree, the inner conflicts and personal flaws are what make these characters SO interesting and relateable!
