Queen Latifah Steel Magnolias

All hail the Queen!

Academy Award winning actress Queen Latifah has been added to join the cast of Lifetime’s version of the feature film, Steel Magnolias!!!

The made-for-TV adaption of the 1989 film follows the lives and friendships of six women in Louisiana. Other cast members include: Alfre Woodard, Mrs. Huxtable Phylicia Rashad, singer/actress Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Phylicia's daughter, Condola Rashad.

Lifetime Networks president and GM Nancy Dubuc said of the ladies:

“Queen Latifah, Phylicia, Alfre, Jill, Adepero and Condola are some of the most celebrated women in music, film, television and stage, and we could not be more thrilled and honored for them to bring Robert Harling’s poignant story about the strength of women to a whole new generation.”

We couldn't agree more! We can't wait to see this updated and contemporary remake!!!

What do U think of the casting choices??

Queen Latifah was nominated for an Oscar… she didn't win.

  2. 2

God Damn. Is that all we can watch now is stupid remakes? Makes me sick.

  3. 3

Geez Perez do your homework. Queen Latifah did not win an Oscar. Nominated, lost to Catherine Zeta Jones.

Hope the acting in this new version is better than it was in the original movie. It could have been really good if it weren't for the HIDEOUS acting. Ruined the whole movie. :/

  5. 5

one of the best movies of all time, yes new cast is great, but no one could ever replace/remake/redo the original steel magnolias…

  6. 6

I loved the original movie, wasn't Dolly Parton in it. Made me cry. Won't be able to watch this one as I do not get Lifeline.

  7. 7

WHY?! The original is a great movie. So this is an updated urban version for black people? The original had DOLLY PARTON! Another useless remake. Who the heck is Latifah going to play? None of those ladies were big.

  8. 8

Ok this is racism. Whats the point of turning a movie into a all-black movie? Racism right here

  9. 9

Why are they remaking this movie with all black actors? Once again…

  10. 10

This movie is probably one of the best ever made. So much laughter, so many tears! LEAVE IT ALONE! No cast can touch the original! This is a huge mistake, and I hope it never happens! Come up with something original please! You don't take a wildly successful movie and try to make it better. It is guaranteed to pale in comparison! Stupid, stupid idea! I cannot believe Queen Latifah would be involved in this train wreck! Run away!

  11. 11

Yeah! Why is everyone black in this movie? Shouldn't this air on BET?

Re: LoriC – The acting in the original was incredible! Maybe you should watch it again! I believe there were several Oscar nominations!

  13. 13

Are they going to remake The Color Purple starring a bunch of white actors?

  14. 14

I dont know what's worse this remake or willow smith remaking Annie. Both equally awful

  15. 15

Ummmmm, when did Queen latifah win an oscar?

  16. 16

Re: Bra211 – Yeah…if white people DARED to do that there would be another Civil War

  17. 17

they really need to do a bio movie on Pearl Bailey- and that will be her Oscar winning role I'd bet. In my mind she was born to do that!!

  18. 18

She's gonna suck like she ALWAYS sucks! There should be NO reason why they are making a remake of this movie!

Re: Toy4Paco – The acting was HIDEOUS with the exception of Sally Fields and Shirley McLaine. The STORY was fantastic, though, not taking that way. Dolly Parton and Daryl Hannah were particularly cringe-worthy acting in it.

Re: Bra211 – OMG …I said the same thing to my husband!! I love the original movie…one of the greatest!
