Richard Gere Denies Dissing Pretty Woman!

| Filed under: Film FlickersAustraliasticRichard Gere

Richard Gere PW Quote

So remember that time Richard Gere brushed off Pretty Woman as just a "silly romcom" to Woman's Day mag?

Yeah, neither does he.

The actor's publicist is now claiming that the reports of that statement are false and his rep is even calling BS!!!

Gere's rep states:

"(It's) all a bunch of BS (bulls**t). He didn’t do an interview with that Australian publication."

The Aussie magazine is sticking to THEIR side of the story and their journalist, who supposedly got the quote from Richard.

Woman's Day released a statement reading:

"Woman’s Day stands by our story and our journalist Henry Meller. He spoke to Mr Gere at the Sundance Film Festival ahead of and immediately after the premiere of Arbitrage."

Hmm.

We'd like to think Richard didn't say that about one of the most successful romantic comedies of all time!

Which side do U believe???

Hold up..PerezY you're hoping he didn't say this? He is either lying about doing a whole interview or not?

don't know why he would be trying to distance himself from that quote. it was a silly romcom. it's not like anyone could really take that fairytale about prostitution seriously. could they?

  3. 3

But it was a silly romcom. Where is the insult? Not all movies have to be intellectual and dramatic to be entertaining.

Woman's Day is a reputable magazine. Don't see them making that up. He's only denying it now because so many people dissed him for saying it.

Yeah, I can't imagine a Buddhist saying something negative about a anything, even it if was a silly movie.

Sounds to me like Richard wanted some press of his own…

It is a "silly" film…I mean the plot: dashing man swoops in and saves cute prostitute…Personally, Hollywood needs to come up with better roles for women: Prostitutes or tortured women are unfair not to mention trite. Where are the strong/independent roles…??? Oh wait, Hollywood is run by mostly sexist men….I know, believe me….The movies stinks and is a bad image for women….next.

Re: AttFinch – Agree! No trying to be a moralist but a Disney movie based on the motion of a hooker with a heart of gold "honestly" trying to economically make it into a Upper middle class situation? Very Absurd!
