Hunger Games Has The THIRD Best Opening Weekend OF ALL TIME!

Do ya hear that?

It's the sound of mockingjays tweeting dollar $igns all up in this arena!!

We knew Hunger Games was going to have a HUGE opening, but this is cray!

The movie had the THIRD best opening weekend OF ALL TIME.

Bringing in $155 million to Lionsgate (and that's just domestically!!), it also shattered records as the biggest opening for a nonsequel.

It definitely surpassed any Twilight flick, but just comes in behind The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Lionsgate VP David Spitz said:

"The numbers just kept growing and growing. And based on the trajectory of the weekend, we are going to have an unbelievable hold. We are going to play and play.

I think that when we initially looked at this property, we thought we were going to have Twilight numbers in terms of females, but we didn't."

Soooo, how's that sequel coming along? It's pretty much inevitable now, right??

Look I am happy for any success this franchise has but they HAVE GOT to stop being in a battle with Twilgiht. It's not even close to the same types of movies…there is NO competition from anyone but the Hunger Games people and it makes them really look desperate.

Of course they are not going to attract the same number of females for an audience….it is a "man's show about killing and survival!

Of course they're going to keep mentioning Twilight. They're trying to bring some of their fanbase over to The Hunger Games, and it worked. It was a smart move early on to get the movie talked about. I agree that they can drop it now; Hunger Games can stand on its own two feet.

From the clips, this movie actually looks good in an intense sort of way. I never saw any of the Twilight movies, but I know this one is NOT about vampires, so I'll see it next week.

I didn't love it, but I love the cast and it's potential. So I am happy that people are seeing it. Read the books everyone! They are well worth the time. Yay for Jennifer & Josh… I love those two. Such great young talents.

Yes! please stop comparing this series to Twilight. They were better books, movie and better actors. Awesome movie very close to the books.

The twilight Movies SUPER SUCKED MAJOR DICK. I mean they were horrible.
This movie is not great but it is semi-decent. Then again it was overhyped.
