Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgewick: Distant Cousins?!

Woah! Talk about bizarre!

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick, the married couple of 23 years with two grown children, are actually distant cousins! No, seriously. We are not joking. This is NOT a joke.

However, the key word is distant. They're distant cousins… OK? That's not creepy. Not one bit. Nope. It is not creepy…

Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. confirmed:

"They are indeed distant cousins. So talk about six degrees of separation, right?"

More like your six degrees of bacon! Are we right or are we right? Anyone? Anyone?

Anyway, the PBS show about genealogy, Finding Your Roots, discovered the link between the happily married cousins by tracing their DNA.

I mean come one! We've heard about being close to your family but this brings that to a whole new level. Actually, like three new levels!!!

Gates, quotes:

"I want … Americans [to] realize how united we are as a people. … There's so much animosity … and one of the things that I want the series to do is to show that, deep down, we are all Americans. We've been sleeping together from the very beginning of the country."

Next time you're hanging out with your cousin remember they could be "the one." Lolz!

If you trace it back far enough, we're all related.

There is a class of Cubans (pre-Revolution) where cousins were encouraged to marry to "keep it in the family". Shouldn't thrown stones You might be a child of one of those arrangements…

Many of us are all distant cousins, what the guy says is true. Over time, the same people in the same country eventually there's bound to be some trace of relation somewhere with many of us. Most of it dates much farther back then this country, though. I don't get why you're acting crazy over it lol it's not like they knew, and they're probably so distant that it's long since irrelevant. 23 years, 2 grown kids. What do you expect them to do? divorce over it'? stupid..

    This is very old news.

VERY old news. She came on…what some late night show MONTHS AND MONTHS ago and said she had her geneology traced back and found out they were like 10th cousins. sooooo yawn.

It is creepy to hook up with a first or second cousin. And most people think a third cousin is a little yucky also. But what are we talking about here? 5th cousins twice removed or something like that? It's not that big of a deal, Prez.

Perez ur "Lolz" at this story is a form of bullying. Why r u laughing at them? Its not like thwy knew they were cpusins when they got married. Theyve been married for years. How long have u been married? Oh wait no one would touch u with a 10 ft pole!

Oh come on, it took some nutcase a long time (I'm sure) to trace back that they are cousins, it's not a big deal. Isn't it in England, where they encourage cousins to marry one another to keep the same blood line? I do agree that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cousins are icky but if you have to actually trace it back very far, it's not a big deal.

Oh and whoever said this is an old story is right. I saw this at least a week ago. All Perez does if find news stories from other sources. Unless it's the Kardashians because they like to tell him all their own gossip so they can control what comes out.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is a Harvard Educated historian and genealogist, so I wouldn't go calling him a nutcase. And they had to utilize DNA to find out they were related… so no we shouldn't be expecting to marry a cousin (not legal), and we should likely not exaggerate about things…

    Big fucking deal.

How distant is distant? Their parents are cousins? Their grandparents are cousins? Either way, I'm sure it's okay. This was quite common back in the day, not too long ago. Still common in some cultures.

Not only old news but ridicules and irrelevant.. Guess they ran out of sleazebag paparazzi to bother entertainers.. Somebody needs to dig up some dirt on the editors who spews out this type of 'newsworthy' trash and put them in the spot light.
