ANOTHER Chevy Chase Voicemail Surfaces!!

| Filed under: TV NewsCelebrity FeudsWacky, Tacky & True

Harmon V Chase

Chevy Chase should really just stick to face to face meetings when airing grievances — these voicemails are outta control!

The huge fight between Community creator Dan Harmon and Chevy has been widely publicized these past few weeks, and just now we're finding out there's another voicemail.

From the sound of it, it seems like Chevy hates his own show, and doesn't think it's funny!

This one starts out calm and innocent enough with Chevy actually explaining himself:

"The other part of the disconnect is obviously, you don't get my humor at all, or what it is I do that's funny, that actually makes people laugh."

Community is one of the most hilarious shows on television, and we're not quite sure how he can think it's unfunny.

But then the voicemail goes downhill quickly:

"There are two choices. One is the story line — like everybody gives a sh*t about the f*cking story when they don't even know who the characters are — or there's, 'Make people laugh.' It's cut down. For what? So people can follow the story line between Joel [McHale] and Gillian [Jacobs]? And about love affairs and kissing? Come on man, you're missing the f*cking point. This is not my kind of comedy. I thought you hired me for what I can do that's funny! You've got to give me some range.

It’s just a f*cking mediocre sitcom! I want people to laugh and this isn’t funny! It ain’t funny to me because I’m 67-years-old and I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve been making a lot of people laugh a lot better than this.”

It's true: Chevy Chase can be funny. And we think he's funny on this show.

The problem is that comedy and comedy formats are changing from what he's used to, and it sounds like he's totally disconnected from what the audience — and critics — are loving these days.

Time to change with the times, Chevy, not to throw hissyfits when something doesn't work and is edited out of the show!

Do U think Community is funny just the way it is??

I have a problem with these types of complaining celebrities. Maybe the show isn't all you want it to be for YOU, but come on. You're on a show that's good enough to survive more than a single season. Be grateful you've got a good-paying job and fans who support the show. Not too many 67 year olds have been as fortunate as you. Try to remember that when you're whining.

Given his track record for alienating people and the length of time he was unwelcome in any medium, he should be thankful for the opportunity to make a come-back. But lets face it - his type of humor is no longer deemed as funny as it used to be (he's hardly timeless like Betty White, Cloris Leachman, Jerry Stiller, etc) . He should consider himself lucky to have work.

Sounds like the creative struggle of a man who gives a shiz about what he does.Re: dreamboat – You seem to think he should settle for the cash. He's from another generation, hun.
What could happen is a compromise between the lost older and the new. Chevy's fat part of the curve boomers are sitting watching the tube more than ever. Seeing what flies is hit and miss at best. Lorre's had two pretty good ones, but fresh funny is few and far between. It comes down to the writers.

Community is funny for what it is but it isn't the type of quick witted and subtle humor that Chevy has mastered. The two work reasonable well together but Chevy is limited to the style of comedy the show is based around. Community has funny and unique writing but is presented in a way so that the viewer can easily pick up the laugh and the comedy is very one dimensional in that it mostly auditory and not visual. Community could be on the radio and you wouldn't miss much of the comedy. Chevy is quite the opposite. He is a master of physical comedy, particularly subtle facial expressions, and has a quick wit and ability to insert jokes into his dialogue that will make you cry out laughing without a punch line. In my opinion Chevy's style would be much better suited for a show like The Office, Modern Family, or 30 Rock.
