The Miss Universe Organization Will Allow Transgender Contestants

Transgender beauty pageant contestants

Such AMAZING progress in the world of beauty pageantry!

Transgender beauty queen Jenna Talackova was originally discriminated against and rejected by the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant because she was born a male, but after much hell raised from organizations like GLAAD, the pageant organizers changed their tune.

First they announced that she would be allowed to compete, but NOW the Miss Universe Organization has decided to allow ALL transgender contestants to compete from now on. Paula Shugart, the president of the pageant organization, said in a statement:

“We want to give credit where credit is due, and the decision to include transgender women in our beauty competitions is a result of our ongoing discussions with GLAAD … We have a long history of supporting equality for all women, and this was something we took very seriously.”

We couldn't be more excited for Jenna and all of the future transgendered contestants who hope to become the next Miss Universe.

Great work, GLAAD!

This is so wrong and it's going to lead to chaos in the future. Nobody cares about a pageant, but what's going to happen when a 6'6 muscleman decides to become a woman and then compete in women's professional boxing? Are people going to say it's okay when he beats 'real' women to a pulp, makes millions of dollars easily from the sport, and wins an Olympic gold medal? Then will people see how screwed up this is?

So will they allow ALL contestants that have had plastic surgery to compete? Fair is fair. I think this has opened up a whole can of worms, and anyone who has had any type of plastic surgery should not be allowed to compete. Just sayin….

looks like i wont be watching any pagents. Thats just nasty. If you're born a boy, than keep that way.

I'm not one who cares about looks and whatnot, but I do care about rules being followed. The main rule is you have to be a natural born female, and that it is not. Just because you snip off your boner and change your gender on your paperwork DOES NOT MAKE YOU A WOMAN!! In my opinion, they should not allow it to compete.

At least she won't have to lie on her form.
I am ok with her being transgendered, because if she feels like she's meant to be a girl whatever, don't get it but I don't have to.

It's the 'enhancement' surgery that seems a little unfair. At what point to we say "This is a beautiful natural woman" when they have lip fillers, fake boobs and a butt lift? Of course she looks beautiful, but if she crafted a new face when she got her dick cut off, that's hardly fair.

I am also kinda pissed the Canadian government will pay for someone to get a new set of genitals, but they won't lower the cost of gastric bypass surgery past $18,000. What a stupid fucking country I live in. It sickens me that I had to pay for someone's plastic surgery, and we can't even get a hip replacement in this country without waiting for two years.

God bless America, where you pay for what you need and use instead of paying for what everyone else needs and uses.

so freaking stupid….and then when they lose it will be all…..oh poor me, it's cause im transgender……and GLAAD will get their panties all in wad again..it will never end…..idiots

And I will be done watching MIss Universe. I completely support the LGBT community, but this is a pageant for women - natural women. As women, we all do things to improve our appearance, some going as far as collagen injections, boob jobs, etc, but this takes it to a whole new level. In this contest, it's women competing against women. This is really a case of being unfair to the real women competing in the pageant.

And the gays have found yet another way to hate them. Congrats, lmao. You are your own worst enemies. Next GLAAD will target Toddlers & Tiaras so the little Hiltons of the world aren't discriminated against.

As much as I stand for LGBT rights, this is a bad idea. Many people will tune out because they don't want to watch a show not knowing if a contestant is a man or a woman. You can have reconstructive surgery all you want, but how can someone who BUYS their femininity compete with women who were BORN with it? A line has to be drawn somewhere. This is why most of the judges of these pageants are gay or other women.

every single one of you who have commented are disgusting hateful people. allowing transgendered individuals to participate in the Miss Universe pageant does not effect your life in any way at all. so just stop spewing your hate under the anonymous guise of the internet and get a life !

  12. 12

Absolutely pathetic. I AM a gay male and I think this is pathetic and ridiculous…especially for the naturally born females out there who work hard to compete. Now we have someone with male internal organs who just feels obliged to be in this pageant b/c he/she feels pretty. well hell, I feel pretty sometimes too… so I get to run as well?! Insane….

  13. 13

Re: RB7 – You are pathetic. How can the beauty of a woman be placed on a pedestal when they are competing with people who bought their looks. What about the young girls who watch these pageants? How can they ever hope to have the features of transgenders when they are naturally born females? It's sending mixed messages. Damn GLAAD. I'd just tell them outright.

  14. 14

It is pretty much cheating…they do buy their looks, all LGBT issues aside yea im sure she felt like a woman since birth and all that but still be a woman live your life, seeking for others to judge you and say yea you're pretty is a bit much….idk

  15. 15

Re: RB7 – Lmao, you're a fucking idiot. Now having an opinion is even a no-no around the gays.

  16. 16

This show has given itself the KISS OF DEATH because 90% of it's viewers won't care to watch a parade of SHE-MALES!

  17. 17

I think that all of you that are being negative are just ignorate… We are all human beings!!! She feels like a woman than who are you to judge? The majority of the born females in this pageant have had plastic surgery. very dissapointed in the gay people (who i am guessing are gay men) not supporting her. Sorry that she had bigger balls than you gay men, to become what she wanted to be. In my opinion all these gay "men" being against her are just jealous because you wish you could be where she is at now.

UMM FYI not many of you hang with many beauty queens do you? So many of them have had nose jobs/boob jobs/chin implants/lip suction/ the list goes on…I mean what a dumb argument to make..

  20. 20

Re: Kelly Pierce – Furthermore it's a beauty pageant, if the person doesn't look authentic (pretty) she isn't going to make it in any contest. People are judgemental..so I guess if you ever got glasses or got braces or any type of cosmetic to make your appearance better you should be hated on too. Sex is between the ears..too many put prevalence on cocks/vaginas

This is so pathetic..this pageant was created to represent and bring out the BEST in women (natural) all over the world. Its not about the issue of discrimination here..its about a competition for women who’ll represent their countries for their intelligence ,beauty and character. It just shows how morally wrong our world now, allowing these things to happen.

first of all there are more important gay issues that needs to be addressed like HIV, gay partnership and anti gay laws criminalizing gay acts… this pageant thing, it's a little bit self absorbed, i think this time around we're acting like a bunch of spoiled brats!
