GMA Beats Today For First Time In 16 YEARS!

Looks like Today was an extraordinarily Good morning for ABC!

For the first time in 16 years, Good Morning America ruled the morning news circuit, ousting Today from its perch.

GMA averaged 5.147 million viewers, narrowly edging out Matt Lauer-less Today's 5.134 million last week.

The 25 to 54 demo still saw Today more often than their counterpart but GMA can chalk this week up as a moral victory.

Can Ann Curry keep her job Today from slipping again?

If it's true that Matt Lauer has been offered a 25-30M a year salary that might be enough to put some people off. It blows my mind watching the local news and the anchors here can not even read the teleprompter. This media industry must have something to do with who they know. As there are many of us who paid for ourselves to graduate from America's top universities and can't get a job sweeping the floor at NBC or the like.

I stopped watching Today after they had on Sarah Palin for ratings. Enough!

What about one network beating another in ratings is a MORAL victory?!?

I love GMA. The egos of the hosts don't come off as BIG as Lauer's. He could fill a room all by himself. Used to watch Today but when George came on GMA, I switched and stayed. It has nothing to do with Currie. It has everything to do with the crew at GMA who were already gaining on Today before Viera left. People now feel that they have a choice. The abrasive and egotistical Matt Lauer (regardless of cohost) or the team effort at GMA with savvy people who ask less biased questions. I never like Lauer and his new contract really does turn me off. NBC is losing ground and this is one more big mistake. Look at the trendline over the last full year and you will see that it was only a matter of time.

Not surprised to read this at all. The Today Show hasn't been as good since Ann Curry replaced Meredith Veira as a co-host. She's paaaainful to watch during interviews. Ann comes off as incredibly fake when trying to appear understanding/heartfelt during interviews. She needs to go back to the news desk, or just fill in for Brian Williams when he's out. She's only good at reading the news straight for the teleprompter…Matt is worth every penny…and dear god, do NOT add Seacrest (Seacrest during a newscast = total loss of respectability)

Obviously due to Ridiculously Photogenic Guy's appearance — please!

    Re: SJ
Sorry - you did not say who the Ridiculously Photogenic Guy was. And I sure don't know.

I think Ann Curry is okay, but the segments are so repetitive now.
