The Rockford Files Coming To The Big Screen With Vince Vaughn!

| Filed under: TV NewsFilm FlickersVince Vaughn

NBC couldn't bring The Rockford Files back from the dead, so Universal will try instead!

Universal Pictures has inked a deal to bring the 70s show to the silver screen, with Vince Vaughn attached as the star and David Levien and Brian Koppelman writing the script.

The show originally ran on NBC, who had plans on reviving the Files before they abandoned ship last year.

John Rockford, Vaughn's character, is a laid back, charming private eye, bit more rugged and unkempt than the classic detective, and was originally portrayed by James Garner.

We think Vince will be just fine with this role!

love love loved James Garner and The Rockford Files
    actually anything Garner did
    great actor
    decent, principled man
you don't see many of them
no skeletons in his closet at all
Vince Vaughn is not the man for the role
you don't use a comedy actor for the character
you need a dramatic actor like Garner was - who has great comedic timing
likeTom Sellick was a dramatic actor who had a great comedic sense in Magnum
that is why the characotrs were so memorable and perfect
so no- not vince Vaughn- none of the comedy actors
woul love to see someone like Robert Duval play Rocky- Rockford's father
    fantastic actor-great comedic timing
they need to elevate this film out of the comedy arena and make it a great dramatic film- with the charming and wit of the original or they shouldn't bother doing it at all
it shouldn't become a VinceVaughn/Owen Wilson/Ben Stiller etc. vehicle nothing against them)
if it's not well cast I won't go to see it even though I love the character
they need to ask James Garner who he'd cast and why - may would the best take on what an actor needs to deliver a perfect character
