Veep: Ratings And Reviews Are In!

| Filed under: TV NewsBusiness Blitz

Veep

The reviews are in for HBO's newest comedy Girls Veep!

The show starring Elaine Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Sarah Palin a female Vice President, pulled 1.4 million viewers for it's first showing of the premiere Sunday.

That's not amazeballz, but it's better than the debut of network's other new chick comedy, Girls.

And what's more, the critics all seem to think the same thing: Julia is the shizzz!!

EW said:

"Julia Louis-Dreyfus gives such a commanding performance in Veep, that the opening half-hour sped by so quickly and so enjoyably, I barely noticed that I never actually laughed during its 30 minutes."

CNN wrote:

"Sunday night's premiere episode definitely lived up to its potential."

New York Daily News thinks the show is fell short, but also:

"Veep has some smart, witty writing as well as a fine comic performance by Julia Louis-Dreyfus."

In short, the comedy is good, but not "LOL" funny.

We're definitely gonna give this show a shot.

I watched it. I didn't like it. I hate when they depict women as stupid and, boy is this character stupid. Sadly the supporting cast is good but not good enough for me to watch again. I have removed it from my "series" record.

Re: Ripp52 – But there are plenty of "stupid" women in the world. Sorry, but this is pretty much inspired by Sarah Palin. Now, there are an equal amount of dumb men in this role, also portrayed in the show.

This is definitely a commentary on the current political market.

This is a comedy - I laughed so hard during the first few minutes! If you didn't like it because you didn't think it was "right" or that she was "stupid.." then I doubt you look at the news.

If this was a drama, I would be mortified that they would allow this.

«I barely noticed that I never actually laughed during its 30 minutes.»
So the critic did not like it. It's a comedy and he doesn't laugh…

Or Perez cut and pasted badly: «I barely noticed that I never actually topped laughin during its 30 minutes.»

It had a few funny moments. Over all it it was average. But better then Girls which is horrible.

Girls is AMAZING. I can't believe it's not doing better.

My wife and I watched the first ten minutes of Veep and turned to another show…it was NOT funny so HBO better stick to more serious shows like Boardwalk Empire or Game of Thrones.

Seriously people? It was awesome! lol this show was written for her. If you don't think shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm or movies like Waiting for Guffman aren't funny, than don't bother watching. This show is awesome. Give it a shot, otherwise I guess go watch Two an half man or something.

I keep reading about all these palin comparisons - but no where did I get the impression that this Veep is even closely based on her. She's not stupid, she's just stuck in a position that is mostly futile and out of her control. There are no "I can see russia from my house" "momma grizzly" or "what's nafta?" level stupid jokes from the veep… It's more funny because she's a political pawn. And if you didn't laugh at the delivery of "yeah… he's a dead now" then maybe you just don't know comedy…

I'd just like to point out how this show's main character is the absolute antithesis of Sarah Palin, so all of these comparisons are really grating to hear. This "veep" is very intelligent and capable, but limited by the everyday roadblocks of the political machine. That, folks, is the point of the show; Selena isn't "dumb," she's just frustrated by having the most powerful position in the world that happens to also be the most pointless.
