The cop doesn't have to shake anyone's hand. You're an idiot, Perez. This is why you'll never be taken seriously. You're under the whole celebrities should be taken lightly with the police.

What an asshole of a cop!
And not shaking Kris' hand and being rude to him, Who the fuck do you think you are?
I wish I was there, I would teach him how to be nice…and you take Kris' hand when he take his hand out. Ugh…

Kris is such a class act, makes me love him even more. Can't wait for your album on May 22!

well at least the fans had some good time with Kris before that rude cop came over

just another fat-ass cop, who couldn't chase down a criminal if his life depended on it. Lay off the donuts, you chunky bully.

Now that's a nice guy. The cop was being rude, Kris tried to be respectful, cop blew him off, Kris was still polite. Imagine this happening to LiLo or something.

The cop was totally rude. If it's his personal policy to not shake hands with people (I totally understand with all the germs and bacteria on hands) then he could have politely told Kris that he can't. If it's policy that they can't shake hands, again, he could have nicely responded. But he was obviously a jerk. Cops need to remember that they are not above the law nor are they higher in stature than the average citizen. We pay for their income therefore they are PUBLIC SERVANTS. That means, each citizen is given respect and treated politely. No matter what. If Kris would have caused a scene then that's a different story. That cop, and others like him, need to learn how to deal with the public. And that's exactly why the majority of people have an issue with cops.

I respect most cops, who have a very difficult and dangerous job,but there is no excuse not to treat the public with courtesy ,especially since Kris was so respectful to him.I do think it's a freedom of speech issue that you can't sing in public without a permit, but I blame the politicians not the police.
Kris seems like a great guy and it was sweet of him to give a concert to his friends.Kris sounds wonderful with just his guitar and no voice enhancements.

I am somewhat saddened by the officer's demeanor; not quite rude, not quite professional. Definitely the officer should spend a little time working on tact.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Kris Allen. But, it is police policy not to shake hands with anyone. It was nothing against him. The officer was just doing his job. It is unfortunate when he has to break these things up, but he should not be chastised for doing his job.

    Re: melz
Maybe it was policy to not shake hands, but it was not necessary for the cop to be rude. I totally support policemen and women, but this was OTT. I'm pretty sure he could tell by looking that Kris Allen was not a criminal lol. He could have said "Hey, man, I'm sorry to have to shut you down, but…." JMO obviously.

The cops name is Tom Brierly…he's actually not a cop he is a glorified overpaid security officer for Santa Monica PD. He's a Harbor Patrolman (even though Santa Monica no longer has a harbor) who literally enjoys talking down to just about everyone. Voice your concern to the City for his poor treatment of the public.

Re: Skygeorge – I don't understand why taxpayers pay a security guard $100k even though he's not required to have a college degree or even peace officer status. It's a slap in the face to a starting doctor at UCLA who barely makes that much and has sacrificed a decade or so of their life and hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans.
