Sounds like Selenita might be involved in some legal dramz!!!
Reportedly, Selena Gomez has just been served with a $1 million lawsuit from a band claiming she stole their song’s melody!
The two songs battling it out? Selenita’s A Year Without Rain and band Luce’s song Buy A Dog!
Selena’s song was released in 2010 as a single off her second album of the same name, which she recorded with her band, The Scene.
Luce’s song, however, was recorded back in 2005 and the band is now suing Selena and the song’s co-writers, Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad.
The complaint from Luce’s end states:
"The melodies in the chorus of both songs are virtually identical. [The song] was a No. 1 record on several radio stations around the United States, including WRLT in Nashville and KFOG in San Francisco, at both of which it was among the 10 most played records for the entire year of 2005."
We listened to both songs back to back and have to admit that they DO sound similar.
Maybe it's just a coincidence?? Or maybe it's just a pretty simple melody, regardless?
Guess we'll have to wait and see…
