North Carolina Votes On Gay Marriage Ban Today!

north carolina gay marriage ban

It's a very important day in North Carolina!

When voters cast their ballot for the primaries, they'll also be voting yay or nay on a gay marriage ban!

If Amendment 1 passes, in their own words, "marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized."

So not only will consenting, gay adults lose any hope to marry in the state, they won't even be able to enjoy a civil union.

But the LGBT community won't be the only one suffering is this passes. Opponents of the measure stress the harm it would cause to victims of domestic violence.

As Bill Clinton puts it, "the real effect of the law will be to hurt families and drive away jobs."

Just something to keep in mind today when you're at the polls, NC readers!!!

Unfortunately, the same people who gripe about government interfering in their lives are the very ones who are pushing this amendment. I hate to see North Carolina go this way, but I fear the pros are coming out in droves to vote for the amendment.

Just as an FYI…gay marriage will still be illegal in North Carolina. This truly is a family issue and will harm the children of gay couples as well as children from unmarried couples. Learn the facts and protect peoples rights!!

sorry swipes. a man will always be a man and a woman will always be a woman no matter how much you wish otherwise. but you're so tolerant and amazing and better than other people for wanting 2 men to be the same as a man and a woman. you are morally superior and clearly everyone else is hateful and a neanderthal. screw kids. its all about you and you feel. you're so great.!!!!

Seems like NC is the only state that has their head on their shoulders. Hopefully this state leads the way for proper marriage to occur throughout the US.

Hope all the right thinking people of North Carolina get out and vote. Marriage is between one man and one woman, no matter how much some people want to pervert it.

Prez-diddy, I am so glad you posted on this important issue. FREEDOM OF CHOICE IS OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT (that's right GOD GIVEN) and equality as HUMAN FREAKING BEINGS is what we need to stand for. I love Jesus and I think if you're in love and want to be committed to a person and vise versa, they should be aloud to do so. VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT ONE NC!!!!!

I went and voted against the day early voting started. Myself and other NC citizens are fighting hard to prevent this from passing. This won't only hurt gay couples, but unmarried men and women and children as well. I'm very worried that this amendment will pass. NC is forward thinking in many cities (Charlotte, Greensboro, Asheville) but there are still many conservatives who are fighting to pass this amendment in the small towns throughout NC. Marriage isn't just for a man and a woman, it is for anyone who loves another human being. If you think otherwise, then you shouldn't even be on Perez's site.

It still amazes me that people will actually go out and vote against the rights of their neighbors. Let's hope North Carolina takes a stand for equality. If the ban passes it will be a huge stigma attached to the state, and I don't think North Carolina wants to be known as a state that stands for bigotry.

Perez, before you post get the facts. This amendment does not do anything but define what marriage is in the state of NC. It does not effect insurance or take away domestic violence protection. This is exactly what the amendment says,
"Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts. "

I'm sorry to say that the amendment passed. I voted against it and encouraged others to do the same. Unfortunately I think the majority of voters didn't understand exactly what they were voting for. The amendment not only takes away rights of homosexuals and domestic violence victims, but also non-married heterosexual couples and their children as well as elderly widows. As a citizen of NC I'm in fear of what this amendment will be used to justify and I'm both ashamed and disgusted by my neighbors who voted "For".

Perez, Perez, Perez, I knew the way you think was twisted from the get-go and with that comment you made on voting nay on same-sex marriage in North Carolina harmfully affecting domestic violence victims proves that you've gone from twisted to insane with this comment. In ABSOLUTELY NO way, WHATSOEVER should marriage be anything but between a man and a woman!!! Gay couples who adopt children, regardless of how good their relationship is STILL have risk of hurting a child psychologically and those gay couples with children who don't have a good relationship only will cause worse harm to the children. Regardless of what gay people want to think there is ABSOLUTELY NO such thing as a gay gene and to say that God made him or her so that is why he or she is gay is UTTERLY ridiculous!!! I'm SO glad that North Carolina passed Amendment 1 just like I'm glad that here in Virginia where I live same sex marriage is also illegal!!
