Guillermo Del Toro directing

Cool news for fans of Guillermo Del Toro.

We've known that the filmmaker has been busy producing the stop-motion animation version of Pinocchio for some time, but now he's signed on to direct it!

He's replacing Gris Grimly — the author of a 2002 book of which the movie is based on — to co-direct with Mark Gustafson. Jim Henson Company producer Lisa Henson has welcomed Del Toro's presence behind the camera and said:

“Guillermo has been so passionate about this project from its inception and it is an honor to have him bring his unique blend of live action and animation experience to this well-loved story, collaborating with the talented Mark Gustafson.”

We were excited about this before, but now that the guy who brought Pan's Labyrinth to life is on board to direct, we're TWICE as thrilled.

I saw a version of Pinocchio at Centaur Theater this week by Geordie Productions. As always their children's play was a modern day version that entertained both adults and kids in the audience. I love Geordie Productions.
