Lisa Marie Presley's Newest Single SLAMS Scientology

| Filed under: Music MinuteLisa Marie Presley

Much like You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, Lisa Marie Presley's 5th track on the album Storm & Grace is sultry and moody in the best way possible. After listening to the lyrics to So Long though, it's pretty clear that she's waving goodbye to her former religion.

Although she's been a faithful member of L. Ron Hubbard's Church of Scientology since her childhood, she's moving on and is telling us all why one verse at a time.

Check out a snippet of So Long (above) from her newest album, which drops on May 15th, and read the lyrics she wrote to say "farewell" to the churches that "don't have a soul" … AFTER THE JUMP!

So Long

This here is a city without lights
Those are all the people without eyes
Churches, they don't have a soul
Soup for sale without a bowl
Religion so corrupt and running lives
Farewell, fair weathered friends
I can't say I'll miss you in the end

So long, seems that I was so wrong
Seems I wasn't that strong
Dead wrong, and now I'm long gone
Wrong side, I've been sleeping on the wrong side
Stains all over my soul I can't hide
Nothing's more clear than goodbye

These roads they don't lead to anything
These people they talk, they say nothing
Actors who don't have a part
Heartfelt people with no heart
I'll find a new crowd
Make a new start
Farewell, fair weathered friends
I can't say I'll miss you in the end

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, say nothing at all if you've nothing nice to say

Good for her. Scientology is nothing but a cult, not to mentioned creepy!!

No wonder she doesn't sell or make it into popular radio rotation. She's a great example of the fact that most children don't inherit the talent of the parents (and I think Elvis had marginal talent at best … right place, right time, and he wouldn't make it today).

    ugh how depressing

The 'church' of Scientology is in serious trouble when even its coddled, deluded, egotistical celebrity members start wising up and walking away. Now if only John Travolta would sack up and come out of the cult/closet.

I actually really like this song. I didn't think she could sing but I was wrong. I also appreciate the honesty in this particular song, she must have written it herself. I am guessing this is the album that will do well.

Re: maggie – Scientology has a creation myth, an initiation ritual, services, its own vocabulary, etc. It is no different from any other religion - it is just newer.

Re: V_Mathison – With all this hoohah about Yawn Revolting's um…"massage therapy" in the news of late, I think that he IS trying to move on but that $cientolo-money-bots are leaking all the dirt they have on in in order to "change his mind".
Should be interesting to see just how far they'll take it cos we all know (or think we do) that this nonsense is just the tip of the iceberg….now as far as Lisa Marie's concerned, she might be one of the lucky ones. There's probably very little real "thetan nasties" cluttering up her attic so any ammunition they try to use on her won't really be worth the effort. Oh, in addressing that crack about Elvis being a marginal talent…ARE YOU F@#% KIDDING??? Take a good look at your cd collection, Jack…if it weren't for Elvis 90% of those artists would'nt even exist.

I love Lisa's sultry voice. I am so glad she is back in the studio. She is an amazing woman and we need to hear more of her REAL music with a real band behind her. Congrats to Lisa!
That Scientology shit is a cult.

I can't wait to see reactions to this from the cult. Whether it be friends no longer talking to her, a slam about her in an upcoming Freedom Magazine (The cult's magazine to slam critics…google it)

Also, the lyrics above were taken from Tony Ortega's Village Voice piece…there really should be a link to the story.

I like her spirit but she cannot sing.
La Garse, you have no idea what you are talking about with her father either. Also, most of the music legends wouldn't make it today but that is a discredit to the music that is being put out now. Not to the legends and icons' talent.

    Cool song. Sounds really good.

Re: rosebud99 – Preach! The words to Lisa Marie's song couple be applied to any religion. Try to find a connection with God within yourself because when you try to connect with a higher power in a group setting, it seldom turns out well.

Good for her to leave that mind controlled religion!

Re: rosebud99 – Actually it is different. (I am an atheist so I don't believe in any of it) If you read articles about former members it is quite disturbing. I agree the basic idea is no different from any religion. It's what goes on behind closed doors. Also all the money you have to contribute and how you cannot have connections to your family if they are not scientologist. I don't know of any other religion that you would have to cut off your family for having different beliefs. In many countries in Europe scientology is considered a cult and therefore illegal. It was created by a hypocritical science fiction writer.

#15 - another religion where family members have to disassociate themselves from unbelieving family members is Jehovah's Witnesses. If you don't sign on the dotted line, you're ostracized. They cannot socialize with you. The only contact they can have with the unbeliever are continuing talks about becoming a Jehovah's Witness. If you say, thanks, but no thanks. . .they lose your number; you're on your own. No family.

Re: La Garse – Elvis Presley had marginal talent at best and would not make it today? How many of his songs have you listened to? One or two? Read any interview by any rocker of the 60's and 70's and you will find Elvis on their lists of mentors. You think that he got to the top and stayed there for so many years because of his marketing department? Compared to the music biz of today he had none of that. He was big because his talent was huge.

  18. 18

Lisa has such a great voice….. and her lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful. I think this album is going to go gold or platinum.

I think it is by far, the most chic and elegant way….. to disconnect from the cult. We love you Lisa!!!!

Re: rosebud99 – Ummm, you may want to educate yourself a bit more before lumping scientology in with other religions. Creation myth? Once you've paid about $100,000 and devoted years of your life, you finally learn the creation myth.

Cults don't tell you up front what they are really about and what will be expected of you after you join, and that's scientology. There's a big bait and switch used to suck people in and then keep them. The major religions, flawed as they are, tell people up front what they believe and what will be expected of them as members.

Is she discommunicating from her Mom? Priscilla leaving too? Wow.
On a happier note she looks great & sounds great too.

Re: La Garse – Are you crazy? Elvis, marginal? The comment is so out of this world, that it shouldn't even deserve a response. Elvis could stand up in front of an audience with just his voice - no props, dancers, pyrotechnics, sound . audio enhancers, just pure Elvis with raw talent and charisma. There is nothing out there today that can hold a candle to him, and never will be.

Lisa Marie isn't trying to be her father. She has a sultry, beautiful voice and I think she deserves a lot of credit. Quit comparing her to her father.

The first few tracks I have heard sound great!

Love this track - #5 on the Storm and Grace CD. Thrilled with the CD and thrilled she's leaving Scientology.

Wow, you guys are quick. I guess Miscavige already has a smear campaign ready. Which makes me wonder, do you guys have prearranged attack plans for every prominent member, in case they fly the coop? At the rate they're leaving, I guess it's a good idea…

I absolutely loved Lisa Marie's performance on American Idol. The song and her unique voice were hauntingly beautiful. I'm a fan. People would be narrow minded idiots to compare her to her father and not see her individual talent.
