Nigel Lythgoe Did Not Want Britney Or Demi

So you think you can dance judge?

Nigel Lythgoe begs to differ!

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears are the new X Factor panelists but negative Nigel tells the world he never would’ve picked them to do Idol.

That's right — Nigel would do anything for his beloved show… but he won't do that! He insists:

"I hadn't ever considered them. I always like mentors who have a lot more experience."

Ouch! Tell us how you really feel!!

He admitted the two ladies might have a few salient pearls of wisdom to impart on younger contestants, since each dealt with child stardom.

He added:

"These two ladies have had so much personal experience; it'll be interesting. I like someone who's been there and knows the whole gamut of what these kids are going through and help them through."

Remember when Nigel smacked down Simon Cowell a few months ago and then banned mention of The Voice?

Sounds like someone is still a little ratings-cranky!

He's not being negative about this, he's being realistic. It's a terrible idea to put a teen with admitted coke and cutting problems, who btw left her own show because she couldn't handle the spotlight before breaking down, and a has-been popstar with precarious (at best) mental issues who had to get permission from her dad and fiance to do the show, and who almost bit off her own finger during the simple interviews. If neither could handle the spotlight before, you don't thrust them onto a major show like this! Demi has an amazing voice, but she's too young and troubled, Britney couldn't sing live to save her life now and is one step removed from having the IQ of a 5-year-old. Hope Simon has insurance and clauses to save him WHEN these two lose it on national TV.

Who the hell watches Idol anymore?!?! It is SO boring… especially compared to The Voice. The X-Factor sucked too, but with these new judges it might work… But Idol is fall behind. It's the same thing over and over and no one is motivated to watch that snooze-fest.

Re: futuremrslabeouf – LOVE what you said. very true!

Britney has experience.. I think Demi was a little bit of a mistake, but we will see!

    Re: futuremrslabeouf – lololololhahahaha

i think that simon knew the voice was going to blow his show out the water which it initially has so he got britney doesnt matter what she does if shes there .. everyone will watch …they will look for signs of a break down …each week tuning in watching for the cracks..

not for nothing but he would've died to score Britney over JLo. No one cares about JLo lol

Britney's father is ruining her career. Icons and legends do not need to be karaoke, contest , judges. I doubt Brit has the mental capacity to be an effective judge. Demi Lavato? What do we really know of her except her problems. She is Ashanti, to Beyonce's,
Selena Gomez. She doesn't have enough experience.
Nigel needs to shut it though. Steven Tyler is no better, Randy is boring and JLO only cares about looking her best. Steven Tyler needs to go. Schtick got old, fast and he is ineffective.

More experience? Why is everyone acting like Britney just got off the bus in L.A.? She has been in this business for like 15 years. And whether you want to focus on her personal issues or not, she still tops the charts (fact). So I don't know how he think JLo has so much more experience, her songs have been lukewarm lately at best. People barely even regard her as a singer anymore.

    I agree with Nigel.

Re: futuremrslabeouf – I dunno if I should laugh at your post for being ignorant or laugh at the fact that you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The act that you call someone a has been popstar is laughable at best. I guess you must been asleep for all of 2008 to honestly feel this way right? You must have to ignore Britney career resurgance. But what really makes me laugh as how you take what they say to heart. It amazes me when I see the idiotic response from celebrity gossipers when they say “they can't couldn't handle the spotlight before” if they couldn't handle it before then they wouldn't BE in this business. I guess you were brain dead to ignore TWO career comebacks from these popstars? Do you know anything about reality TV at all? You are in dire need of an education.

PS: American Idol has been in ratings limbo for a while now. Get with the times idiot.

I agree and disagree with Nigel. I think Britney and Demi were chosen more for rating purposes than anything else. And it might work, I personally have never seen this show before but, I am a fan of Britney and of Demi so I'll be anxious to see how they'll do as judges. I agree that maybe Demi isn't suitable as a judge right now. Despite the fact that she has a great voice, I don't see many people taking her advice to heart nearly as much as they would from someone that has had many years of being in this industry under their belts. That's where I think he's wrong about Britney. Sure she isn't a strong singer but, she's been in this business since she was a child and she's nearly 30 right now (or is she 30 already?) She's had several sold out shows, albums, hits etc. She may have had her break down and she may not be the best singer but, she's far from being a newbie in this industry. She's still making music so, obviously she's doing something right. Either way, I think it just came down to getting their ratings up.

Re: Ajax – Someone's mad..You know that futuremrslabeouf is right, admit it.

Re: Pretty Boys Are Forever – Thanks for the support. I won't bother to respond to this crackpot who thinks education consists of reality TV and career "comebacks." It's just sad to see these two girls so-called fans agree to thrust them into high-caliber shows like this without taking into account that they're NOT MENTALLY OR EMOTIONALLY STABLE. You and I see it though :D

Re: futuremrslabeouf – this coming from someone whose name is after someone who has anger management issues and still continues to make movies. if she was mentally unstable she would be hiding from the world instead she went on a worldwide tour without any problems. many people in this country suffer from some sort of mental disability and they get the help they need to continue on with their lives and thats what shes trying to do.

Re: Pedrito79 – First off, you can't assume anything from an avatar name I use on a GOSSIP SITE. I like Shia for his talent, and would be the first to applaud him if he were to take counseling. But he's not under conservatorship and he hasn't recently come out of intense rehab for serious issues. Britney doesn't function on her own anymore; she doesn't sing live on her tours and if you go to one of her concerts now it's NOTHING like what she used to be able to do before. She is a mess of anxiety; just watch her judge announcement interview. She's not getting the help she needs; she's being exploited and sold to the highest bidder for ratings. She doesn't look excited to be on a big-hit show; she looks like she wants to crawl under a carpet and finish gnawing off her fingers in peace. Sure, normal people probably can function in everyday lives after mental breakdowns; Britney isn't given the chance to, because she's shoved into tours and now a high-caliber show like this.

Britney is actually a very creative person! Most of her video's were her idea"s! she has the x-factor! she did more pepsi commercial then any celebrities! I would love to pick her brains! She actually was signed by Jive records, because of her voice, the dancing was icing on the cake! Britney is a bonafide ENTERTAINER! I love watching her! So many people are fascinated by Britney…she needs a conservator to keep out BS law suits!
