Despite Lung Cancer, Donna Summer Was NOT A Smoker!

| Filed under: R.I.P.Sad SadDonna Summer

Donna Summer no smoker

Donna Summer passed away on Thursday after a 10-month battle with lung cancer, but her family wants the world to know that the Queen of Disco was NOT a smoker!

Her family released a statement that says her cancer "was not related to smoking." In fact, she took very good care of herself.

A source who worked with Summer in 2008 has said:

"She was healthy, she was taking care of herself. She was healthy and energetic when I worked with her."

We probably won't learn too many other details surrounding her cancer and treatment because her family's statement continues:

"Ms. Summer was a non-smoker. Obviously, numerous factors can be attributed to the cause of cancer in general, but any details regarding the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of Ms. Summer's case remain between her family and team of doctors."

Rightfully so! We don't need anymore information because it won't bring her back. All we want to do is remember and honor her legacy!

The world will miss you, Donna! Rest in peace.

BULL SHIT.. She smoked for years. I remember when she was in Chicago years ago and she was smoking up a storm in a restaurant.

Once again Perez, you know nothing. Donna was a heavy smoker most of her life.

Yeah, you are totally wrong — she did several interviews with a cig in her hand

When the tragic news of Donna Summer's death initially broke, it only reported that she died of "cancer.” We knew immediately it was lung cancer.

Such is the stigma of this disease. Lung cancer is considered a smoker’s disease, so blame and shame follow victims, even to their graves. Obituary writers tell us that bereaved family members do not want lung cancer listed as the cause of death.

This stigma has contributed to chronic underfunding of lung cancer research. Lung cancer’s five-year survival rate has stagnated at 15%. Most patients are diagnosed so late they die within a year.

People don’t know the facts. They don’t know that 20% of new lung cancer patients never smoked and that a majority of non-smokers afflicted with lung cancer are women. They don't know that another 50% of new cases are diagnosed in former smokers, many that quit decades ago and had no idea they were still at risk. They don't know that scientifically validated low dose CT scans of high-risk populations could save thousands of lives. Few realize that lung cancer causes more deaths each year than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined.

Our government health agencies and all the national lung and cancer organizations know these facts. Yet they have not made lung cancer research and early detection a priority - even as 160,000 people die each year.

We do not know what caused Donna Summer's lung cancer. But we know this: she didn't deserve to die.

Family is lying. She was a smoker who told her handlers to make sure nobody photographed her smoking. Lung cancer is an very UNcomfortable way to die.
