Phillip Phillips Needs To Drop Out Of American Idol

| Filed under: Music MinuteAmerican IdolHealth

But he's not gonna do it! No matter what his doctor said!

As we previously mentioned, American Idol contestant, Phillip Phillips has been having some serious kidney problems.

He has a blockage caused by kidney stones and, even though he got a minor surgery to help alleviate the condition until he can go have a real surgery, he's still in an incredible amount of pain.

The problem is, he doesn't care about the pain cuz all he cares about is competing in Idol. What a trooper!

His doctor said a temporary fix isn't going to cut it and he needs to get surgery NOW, but Phillip refuses to drop out of the competition! He's so dedicated!

His doc said he MUST go into surgery immediately after the finale.

We liked Phillip before but now… wow! He's so strong, and dedicated, and maybe reckless but it just shows that his music means more to him than even his own health!

Idol is allowing him to miss field productions, such as commercial shoots, because they don't want to stress his body too much.

So nice they're being so caring.

Best of luck and feel better!!

  2. 2

Sorry but he needs to take care of his body, you only get one.

Re: teeter totter – I agree. And as past seasons have shown, it doesn't really matter who wins at this point.

  4. 4

So, he would rather make his body worse, just to win a competition? he's gonna get a record deal either way. might as well, take care of yourself. but Jessica for the win.
A girl needs to win this season.

  5. 5

He's dull and dances and dresses like a Grandad. Yawn yawn yawn. Jessica for the win.

    1. I think it is a mistake Perez, to praise Phillip Phillip's decision to continue in a singing competition at the expense of his health. That is not, 'being a trooper,' that is being misguided. Health comes first.

    2. American Idol also should not be praised for allowing him to miss some work because they, 'don't want to stress his body too much.' If they were really caring they would not allow a sick contestant to put their health in serious jeopardy just to remain in the contest.

Re: Concerned citizen – I wanted to say EXACTLY What the above poster said… AS A SINGER. And like everyone said…dude. U got a deal already. Stop it. This is for publicity only. To get his name on more people's lips.

he'd rather die than miss a game show finale? weird. must not be in real pain.

Does this actually make him look good to people? All it does is make him look like an idiot to me. If fame is more important to him then his own life then he's a dick and deserves no respect whatsoever.

Re: Concerned citizen – The show could care less about his health, all they care about are ratings. If he died on stage they'd count that as a bonus for all the publicity it would generate. These people have no souls full stop, they only care about money.

good health should be included in the requirements for acceptance of candidates to the American Idol

reality tv over health? bit shallow if you ask me…

If he really wants to do that to himself to win a competition that's going to lead to his career being mismanaged into oblivion, then more power to him. When he's opening electronics stores and singing at shopping malls after his record label uses him up and drops him, he might wish he would have put his health first.

Wonder what his family says about this. Obviously this pretty dude has got his priorities straight. Until he's playing music in heaven, that is.

It might be just that he wants to say to himself that he completed the adventure. It is so close to the final, maybe he can hang on long enough to see it to the end. That might be important to him. I hope he doesn't die because of it though. And I hope he wins. Not because he is a white male with a guitar, just because I prefer his music and style to Jessica's. I would buy his music, but I would never listen to Jessica even if somebody gave me her cd as a gift.

Do you think maybe his family and himself can't afford the healthcare he needs? Maybe winning American idol like he just did will allow him to get all the help he needs. People shouldn't critize what he chooses…we all have the right to choose what we want.

Perez…really?? You think you are qualified to tell someone what to do?? People know their limitations… get a life DUUUUUDE!

    Re: Ivan

I don't know that Phillip Phillips should be commended for having put his health at risk AND I don't know that it was fair to the other contestants that American Idol made special concessions in order for Phillip to have remained. The cynic in me has to wonder if a lot of this was a ploy for him to get the sympathy vote, although I don't really believe this.

dedication or hungry enough for fame and fortune to be a kardashian?

I wish he had dropped out for a lot of reasons. His health should be his number one concern. I think it is sad that he won mainly because the teenage girls liked him. He is definately good but Joshua was clearly the winner. Jessica was also good but she needs to mature a little and come back. I wish him the best as the American public thought he was best and hopefully will take care of his health over American Idol.

I think that Phillip Phillips should have dropped out of the competition because it was unfair that he got special treatment and did not have to do all of the stuff that the other contestants did. He got a lot of sympathy for his illness and extra votes because of this and it just wasn't fair. Jessica and Joshua should have been in the finally due to their performance. Phillip just basically just stood their like he was constipated every week and the young girls voted for him because they thought he was cute. This is the reason I am no longer going to watch America Idol because it's not about singing it's about who is cute. Joshua got 12 standing ovations for his performances and yet he was not in the final…..that's just rediculous. Phillip won because he got sympathy and the show kept talking about his illness. Clearly Phillip did not compete and do all the other things that the other contestants were required to do…..all he did was sleep and sit down when he wasn't performing becsause he was not able to do anything else. How is that fair? If you can't do what is required by all the contestants then you should be eliminmated from the show.

It's kidney stones dudes - it's not like he has to get a new kidney or he's on dialysis - but they are very painful.
