Battleship Sinks At The Box Office!

| Filed under: RihannaFilm FlickersBusiness BlitzAlexander Skarsgård

rihanna alexander skarsgard battleship box office numbers

YIKES!!

Even with Rihanna and the undeniably seXXy Alexander Skarsgard, Battleship blew… itself to pieces!

With execs hoping for $35-40 million, the action movie only caught $9.1 million Friday… meaning an estimated $25 mil weekend!! That's lower than John Carter… oOouch!!

Now, the international profits do read $220 million but with domestic numbers that bad, it's gonna be REALLY hard to swim their way to profitable shores! We mean, the film cost $209 mil to make and that doesn't even include the extravagant marketing.

Guess board game movies aren't always smart!

I personally think Rihanna looks too much like a butch lesbian. I think people rather see her doing something more chick flicky or comedy like. I myself have no interested on watching this movie.

I don't want to see a singer act and i don't want to see/hear an actor sing! Unless your Barbra Streisand or in musical theatre…

Basically, Rhianna, you are balls. Stop acting. And singing.

  3. 3

Is this another example of you "keeping it real", Perez? It seems outwardly you may have changed (for the worse IMO!), but you're still the same bitchy queen on the inside. The galling part is that you're clearly trying to be something you're not. Give it up!

  4. 4

Thats because Alex was like one of the only real actors in the movie! There were like 2 super models and Riri who's a singer. Alot of explosives cant cover up bad acting.

Thats because Alex was one of the only real actors. You had like 2 super models and riri whos a singer. Explosives and a pretty face cant cover up bad acting for 2 hours

Because people know that if Rihanna is in a movie it problably sucks.

lol who is Perez kidding?!!? i think even he knew this movie was gonna suck. Nobody wants to see a singer act!!!

  8. 8

It's because Rihanna was in it that no one saw it…

Awful Movie, saw it with My daughter, it was really torture, although i didn't have high hope, but it was worse than anticipated.

The problem is that people keep overestimating her popularity and it blows up in their faces. From what I have seen in the way of comments/articles/magazines people are sick of Rihanna or at least don't regard her the same way they used to. Using her in a film to get an audience is a poor move. On top of that nobody cares about seeing singers try and act because they're usually always terrible.

My gf loves Rihanna as a music artist. I asked her if she wanted to see it and she said no. Peronally can't stand the woman, but if her fans won't even see the film not surprising it's bombing.

Saw a preview last week and we left after 20 minutes. Absolute waste of time. Rhianna is a wide eyed freakish looking wench with a face made for radio. Too bad you can't auto tune acting

  13. 13

I don't think it matters who the actors are, the plot and everything about it looked especially stupid. And calling it 'Battleship' was an insult to the game.

  14. 14

This is KINDA like when they used Madonna's popularity in A League Of Their Own to promote the movie even when she wasn't in a major starring role, just a few good one-liners that were very effective. Only, that movie didn't bomb and was extremely successful. Poor Rihanna. She should have chose a better role for her first movie, now everyone is going to blame her for the film's failure even though she just had a small part.

Rihanna did a decent job actually. Her lines weren't stellar though nor did she have much to do. The cast was good, but the plot line was lacking. I'd like to see Ri in a bigger part, perhaps in a romantic comedy. I love her and I think she has acting chops, but she was barely in this.

  16. 16

Mario(n), STFU. Did anyone expect the movie to succeed? I didn't, so I'm not surprised. And I don't know who cast Rihanna, that dirty whore, in the movie, but that was just stupid. The bitch can't really sing, and now we know she can't act. Maybe what she needs to do is go back to Barbados and earn her living on her back, which I think is her only natural talent.

  17. 17

Whoever made the decision to hire Rihanna should be canned. She has no star power in movies. And the movie did not get good reviews anyway, all the Hollywood hype means nothing.

  18. 18

I won't see it because Rihanna is in it and all I think of when I see her is STDs and how she has to show her nasty crotch all the time.

  19. 19

    LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

  20. 20

Another epic fail for Rihanna!! & the hits keep on comin'!!!!

  21. 21

Re: hugh jorgen – I hope you did not leave the theater just because you saw a bad preview (have seen more than my fair share, and for horror movies have to close my eyes and wait until they are over). I agree this does not sound like a good movie.

I would of watched if yet another singer who thinks they should act would not of been in the movie!

  23. 23

Not surprised at all, it looked horrible. Action movies aren't known for having great plots but this one looked worse than normal. I also think coming out soon after The Avengers, which had all the action plus a good plot, basically was the last nail in the coffin. And yeah, hiring Rhianna for it didn't help…

JUMANJI !!!! thats the only board game made into a movie that was good and ever will be good. It would make 25M$ opening night guaranteed if they made a sequel.

    JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !! JUMANJI !!

  25. 25

because Alex is a uglya$$ actor

  26. 26

    well…DUH! lol

I went to see Think Like A Man and there was a man at the movies demanding to get his money back from seeing Battleship. The security & the police had to be called, they had cuffed him and put him in the police car. I mean $15.00 is alot to some people. You see people the best parts from Battleship was seen on line and on TV. All that promo just to sink. I guess the makers of Battleship using Rihanna thought her fans would bring in the money.

With tha guy screaming for his money back people changed to The Avengers or Think Like A Man.

I went to watch it (For Askars) and I will say this: I don't care if it's a spoiler, but they didn't give Askars enough screen time! Kitsch was cool, and there were a few brilliant comedic tv actors that i was glad to see get their chance to shine. I also might be one of the minority who went to see John Carter and liked it!
But anyway, I wasn't looking forward to rihanna but she could have done worse. I don't like to see singers and untrained models take work away from real actors( and there are loads who could fill her and deckers' place). But anyway, everyone knows that angry is the easiest thing to act, which is what she seemed to base her character on. That's why they often get singers to be in military type aggressive parts when they do crossover. (Ne-Yo did it in Battle: Los Angeles and actually did it well) So apart from two truly abismal moments, I could endure her. I still think Askars and Neeson needed way more screen time! Oh, and internationally, I think the game Battleship is not that big- I remember only having ever encountered it once in my life at one of my parents' friends house and they had lived overseas.
