The times are a changing!

Two weeks after President Barack Obama announced his support of gay marriage, the NAACP has followed suit, and announced that their board of directors voted to endorse the civil right yesterday!

NAACP President & CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous said in a statement:

“Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law. The NAACP’s support for marriage equality is deeply rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution and equal protection of all people."

And Chairman of the Board of Directors Roslyn M. Brock continued:

“The mission of the NAACP has always been to ensure the political, social and economic equality of all people. We have and will oppose efforts to codify discrimination into law.”

Incredible!

And in response to the announcement, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Executive Director Rea Carey said:

"We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the NAACP working together on the many issues that affect all of our lives. Whether it be fair access to education and jobs, an end to voter suppression and racial profiling, the right to love and be who we are free of discrimination — these issues affect all of us, our families and our country. Today the NAACP did what it does so well — inspires and affirms our common humanity."

Beautifully said!

Yet another proud moment for this country! More and more progress every day!

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

Who cares about the NAACP? They get pissed because a little kid does black face for his MLK Jr project, but have no problem about a song called "n*ggas in paris".

Will those two lesbians in Colorado who manipulated the media by falsely reporting a gay hate crime be able to get married now?

Re: Lady Who? – Yeah, kind of funny Perez overlooked this story.

  4. 4

Wow.. so many misinformed people. Don't get your hopes up too high Perez, It's not going to happen anytime soon. In about 6 months, that piece of shit Obama will be unemployed, and the last 4 wasted years of this idot will have been forgotten, and overturned.

    What took them so long?

  6. 6

This is HUGE! Though I'm surprised they hadn't come out and voiced their support to the gay community earlier, it's certainly never too late. In the wake of such ugly notions from one human being to another, what a great gesture it is to see one society of minorities publicly stand up for another.

Re: Lady Who? – Your idea that one situation involving two people is the bases for the rest of millions of people proves just how small minded and irrational you are. For our sake, please, keep talking and take your sinking ship down.

Re: dryan1971 – Oh, the irony of you of all people talking about people being misinformed was not wasted on me. You are as much a joke as you are genuinely evil. You are a bad person.

Tha NAACP, is not relevant, and has not been in years
Just the name COLORED PEOPLE, give me a break
As for the supporting same sex marriage, most blacks do not feel the same, so the few members that NAACP had will be dwindled down even further

    PS
The Al Sharptan SNL piece was priceless ( LETTUCE)

Re: joethehobo – As of the last study 58% of African Americans do NOT support gay marriage. Ever stop to think NAACP is just doing this to fall inline with Obama?

Their like sheep. Obama is only supporting gays because it will get him votes, not because he truly believes it. Any of you stupid enough to believe otherwise are fools. If he felt this way, then why didn't he show support before now? Because its election year!
And the NAACP is only showing support because Obama is black, not because they truly believe, they probably made some backroom deal with Obama.
Personally, I don't care who loves who, along as they find love in their lives. But this whole Obama supporting gays now is just so transparent, its laughable!

Re: dryan1971 – If you were trying to prove you are NOT in fact a bad person, making empty murder threats on perezhilton.com aren't really helping. Just sayin.

interesting that Obama finally spoke after he was shamed by his VP Joe Biden speaking out first..
and then once Obama spoke it apparently became the thing to do- so JayZ and the NAACP are now jumping on the bandwagon
does this mean that there will be less black men "on the down low" finally?
or will the majority of them still hide their sexual orientation?
    will be interesting to see

  16. 16

Guess their position "evolved" very quickly as well. LMAO

Re: dryan1971 – Of course I think you're a bad person. Everyone on this site thinks you're a bad person. How could we not think you're a bad person? I mean, you've said you think gay children should be beaten up by their own parents if they ever came out to them. There's no way you could actually believe these things and claim to be a good person. So which is it? Are you lying to make a point or are you a bad person? 10 bucks says you're out of here with nothing to say like you always are whenever someone calls you out on your bigotry. There are many other bigots like you on this site, but at least they actually argue their case. You just spew your bigotry and are never heard from again so you never have to defend your point. I don't blame you. I wouldn't able to defend your mindset either. I assumed you didn't even check for feedback, but since you replied to my comment, you obviously do, but you just never are able to defend yourself. How embarrassing!

Re: dryan1971 – And, just as always, you're nowhere to be seen when someone calls you out! You did post somewhere you would have pushed Tyler Clementi off the bridge before he could jump. And you wonder why you're being called a bad person. It turns out you're just all bark and no bite… and in cases like this, not even bark.
