Jamaican Reggae Star Beenie Man Apologizes To The LGBT Community For His Hateful Lyrics

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayMusic Minute

Woah! Talk about progress!

Jamaican Reggae star Beenie Man used to not be shy about his intolerance toward the LGBT community, but he's ready to admit he's been wrong all these years.

The 38-year-old artist recently recorded a positive message to apologize for his offensive lyrics and ask for the forgiveness from anyone he may have hurt with his words in his youth. In his proclamation of love for all human beings, Beenie Man said:

"I respect each and every human being, regardless of which race or creed, regardless of which religious belief you believe in, and regardless of which sexual preference you are, including gays and lesbian people."

He anticipated backlash from those who will question his sincerity by quoting old songs and countered with this:

"Do not fight against me for some song that I sung 20 years ago. There is no one in this world is the same as they were 20 years ago – I know I am not."

Hear his words for yourself in the video (above) and let us know if U think he's being sincere!

We're sure a lot of people won't be convinced by a 1:35 apology, but we think it takes courage to admit ignorance and we're happy to hear that Beenie Man has FINALLY been enlightened!

It's 2012, people! Homosexuality is nothing new and it's not going anywhere, so anyone still harboring hate in their heart for the LGBT community needs to wake up and embrace CHANGE!

    Mindless americans jumping on bandwagons.

First it was pink slime, then it was kony, then it was zimmerman..now we're back to the genetic screw ups..

Sigh why are people so dumb?

What a loser! People only apologize when they've done something wrong, or said something wrong. He did neither.

You have to be a real tool to harass someone over the lyrics in a 20 year old song. Just sayin.

Progress my ass, he want's back into the business, which is why he is kissing homo ass. You're such a fucking idiot. But then again, you flambo's tend to follow anyone around that pays you a little attention. What a joke.

Homo may not be anything new and not going anywhere, but that does not mean it's okay to embrace it. Disapproving isn't about hate, pansy boy, so grow the fuck up and stop using labels, lest you end up getting called some choice names. I'm not going to jump on the gay bandwagon because I'm not a hypocrite. Gay is wrong. Playing butt darts is wrong. Women with a taste for vaginal tuna is wrong. Just because something exists doesn't make it right. Now shut up already, limp-wrist.

Beenie Man hasn't been able to get a visa to perform in the U.S. since April 2010 when the work visas of a number of Jamaican dancehall performers were revoked.

In his video statement Beenie Man says: "Do not fight against me for some song that I sing 20 years ago."

Beenie Man has written and performed a number of songs that call for LGBT people to be killed. See the "Dancehall Dossier" (not all of his kill LGBT" songs are listed in the "Dancehall Dossier")

All of Beenie Man's songs listed in the "Dancehall Dossier" were released in 2000 or later. "Batty Man Fi Dead" was released in 2004.

On December 5th, 2009, Beenie Man got on a stage in Kampala, Uganda and sang "Mi Nah Wallah," in which he says that he wants to cut the throats of all gay men. See

Beenie Man signed a Reggae Compassionate Act agreement not to promote hatred and violence in 2007. What he does not mention in the description of his YouTube video statement is that he almost immediately denied signing this agreement. See

Beenie Man's 12/05/09 performance in Uganda was a violation of his RCA agreement.
