Will Smith Explains That Time He Slapped A Reporter On The Red Carpet For Trying To Kiss Him!

| Filed under: TV NewsFilm FlickersWill SmithDavid Letterman

If this is how HE responded, we're afraid to know what Jada would have done!

Will Smith caused a bit of controversy recently when he slapped a reporter on the red carpet of Moscow's Men In Black III premiere when the man, who apparently attempts to make-out with celebrities as part of his shtick, did…well, just that!

The actor, who is now promoting the movie stateside, spoke out about the incident on The Late Show With David Letterman, and while he seemingly appeared unfazed by the ordeal, maintained that he did nothing wrong!

Ch-ch-check him out (above)!

While we certainly don't condone violence of any kind, we certainly think the reporter in question here should have probably informed Will and his team of what he planned to so, so Will could've at least been aware that his personal space was about to be violated!

What do U think?? Did Will have a right to react the way he did or was he out of line?

Perez, not everything is peace and zen ok, NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO INVADE YOUR SPACE. I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I know what you are thinking, Will invaded his space, but only after he violated him. If this reporter would have pulled that on a woman, it would have been harassment and it would be JUST if she slapped him. Will was so nice in giving him a hug and two kisses. This reporter was STUPID and deserved more than a shove and slap. I would have double slapped him. Who knows where his mouth has been?? E

  2. 2

Yes, Will Smith had every right to slap the shit out of the wierdo!!! I would have too. Don't come at me trying to kiss on me, male or female…that was just out of line!

Re: CoriiStarr – you know, as a matter of fact, I would've fought that guy…if I were Will. Beat his ass for that!

Sexual Harrassment will NOT be tolerated :P

The reason he slapped him is that he's a homophobic incult. The reporter was simply trying to kiss him on the cheek. Many guys in Europe do that, it has nothing to do with sexuality. WS is just another brainwashed Scientologist… next!

  6. 6

i would have sucker punched the fucker. that's sooo not okay. will has more restraint that i do.

Re: Marcus – No one has the right to force a kiss on another person; I don't care whether it's a cheek kiss or not. You must be a member of the gay corps, because you're throwing that ridiculous word "homophobic" out there. Smith has the right to not want to be kissed, and if I'd been Smith, I'd have punched the guy out, not slapped him. It's rude to invade another person's space. If you think otherwise, go punch your mother in her stupid face for raising you so badly.

Re: JaRRiE – Good point - a woman slapping a man would have been fine. I guess because Will is a large man who can obviously defend himself, it's seen as more violent. But anyone kissing someone who doesn't want to be kissed is allowed to get upset over it! I think an important thing that hasn't been bright up is that personal space for a celebrity is more than just feeling violated or harassed (which in itself is a serious issue), but it's also a matter of safety. If most celebrities were willing to kiss all the girls who tried to kiss him, they'd get grabbed and stompled on, and probably even injured. It's probably something that most celebrities live with on a daily basis, because they never know when a seemingly normal fan encounter could turn dangerous.

He was well within his rights. No one should kiss anyone that does not invite it! Blech.

  10. 10

He should have taken that q.u.e.e.r around the corner and kicked the crap out of him. There's no excuse for the behavior of f.a.g.g.o.t.s.

Re: Marcus – People do not, in Europe or elsewhere, kiss anyone without being intimate (friend or lover). Who gave the guy permission? You're an idiot.

Should have slapped Dave, that senile old queen

  13. Mr Pete says – reply to this

just think, if this had been a white guy slapping a black guy,
we would call it a hate crime

  14. 14

Should have knocked that bitch out!
    Celebrities have personal space too.

Re: La Garse – But I see YOUR classy mama didn't forget to teach you how to be violent and vulgar… puke…

  16. Marcus says – reply to this

Re: overthere – And you are? Yeah… I didn't think so… go back to the hole you crawled out of.

  17. 17

I can even believe someone would say Re: Marcus – that this was motivated because of homophobia. Look at the video, WIll was like WTF dude, and then smacks him. I think anyone would do the same, or think it and wish they had. This guys was using the situation for personal gain on TV, it was not some normal exchange. He pulled a BORAT type awkward situation for ratings. Lets call it for what it was.

  18. 18

    *I Can't

  19. demode says – reply to this

The kissing was more violent then the smack. Truth. Anyone who says he smacked him because he was homophobic doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. If a stranger grabs you and tries to kiss you, it is unsettling, whether it be male or female.

  20. 20

americans are so hung up and provincial when it comes to affection or sex but so quick and ready to endorse violence and brutality. "duh, i would have punched the guy or beat him up" i swear we have become such an ass backwards country.

The person was trying to kiss Will on the mouth. Will moved his head from side to side to avoid the kiss. But the reporter kept trying to kiss Will, he was holding Will and being aggressive. Sexual Harassment is unwanted contact, which is exactly what the reporter was doing. If you watch it and pay attention to when Will pushed the reporter away. The reporter is smiling. He deserved being pushed, slapped and arrested for sexual harassment. When Will's entourage asked what happened he stated that the guy tried to give him an open mouth kiss. Will did not say any slurs, he just stated the inappropriate action.

Somebody I don't know tries to kiss me, they'd get slapped in the face as well. Or kicked in the nuts, depends on how creeped out I was. He was totally in the right, just because he is a celebrity does not give people the right to take advantage of him.

  23. 23

I'd slap the fucking shit out of the bafoon.

    MARCUS. You are an idiot.

  24. 24

Re: Marcus – I study law at university and kissing someone without their permission is actually an offence of battery.

@Mr Pete - - That is just a dumb statement.

  26. Britbrit09 says – reply to this

Will is a jerk, anyone who knows anything about Europe knows that Europeans kiss on the cheek and lips, even as far east as Russia. If you don't know this you have no business travelling and mingling with the locals.

  27. 27

Re: Britbrit09 – I grew up in Russia, people DO NOT kiss each other, unless they know each other well. In US people seem to kiss more. If that reporter did that to some Russian man he doesn't know, he'd get beat up.

  28. L says – reply to this

Will was letting the reporter get close. That wasn't the issue at all. It was when he tried to force an open mouth kiss on his lips! Which is not customary practice in Europe between pals or better yet: acquaintances. Kisses on the cheek, absolutely. A kiss with tounge…umm…..no. Apparently this reporter is notorious for gags like that. But kissing someone like that is disrespectful period. As for the 'slap'..that looked more like a pat on the cheek to me! It didn't seem violent AT ALL !! He didn't even say anything offensive to the guy..which he very well could of in the heat of that moment! I'm not sure why Perez seems to be so hard on Will. The way he's covering this makes him seem harsh.

will smith did not do anything wrong. the guy harassed will by making the move on him. i'm a girl and if the guy moved in on me while he was interviewing to kiss me and i had no idea who he was, then i would also act to defend myself if such an event occurred. this has nothing to do with homophobia, etc. for all the homosexuals out there because i know you are thinking that will smith over-reacted. sexual harassment is never ok, whether male, female, gay or straight!

  30. andrea says – reply to this

    Re: Marcus
so he should have what? punched the guy instead? why do homosexuals/supporters of homosexuality always jump to conclusions like they have a chip on their shoulder? do you know how many other groups of people get discriminated on a daily basis. stop prioritizing yourselves over other groups. this is reporter was out of line. no one should be allowed to touch someone without consent.

marcus, there's no need to get your panties in a knot.

  32. 32

The guy was annoying getting in his face over and over it would've pissed me off too and I wouldn't call it a slap more a little tap like WTF is wrong with you. The guy was irritating will al the way!!!!

Re: Marcus – just because something is acceptable in one culture does not mean that someone with a different up bringing and or back ground would be comfortable with those customs.

  35. 35

Re: AttFinch – I don't think it has to do with being afraid of sexuality for some people. I wouldn't have hit him but I would definitely try to ninja dodge him. Some people have germ phobias, and some people don't like to be invaded.

If I slapped a woman for trying to kiss me on the cheek when I didn't want it, I'd would be brought up on assault charges, but because it's a gay… Will Smith had the right to slap him!? That's is fucked up!
